TahoeJ - Definitely getting killed by the dryness. Took a really slow-motion, stupid crash a few weeks back on a night ride. Just leaned into a turn at a reasonable clip and tipped over in the dust due to low traction. Didn't get either foot out - just tipped over and shredded my right side for no good reason. So ready for the weather to change.

^^ Sounds about right. It's almost like I forgot how to corner because I'm starting to get scared of trusting anything. ;-)

We were supposed to finally get some rain this weekend but looks like now it's just going to miss the bay to the north and hit Tahoe instead. Bummer, but on the other hand if storm tracks continue on that path for the next few months you won't hear me complain.

Exactly. Driest summer in NJ/PA in a while. Everything was blown out dust. It was so weird racing last weekend in the wet/mud. Bone dry all summer and then BAM, 4-6" of rain. It was amazing being able to rail tacky turns, but most of it turned into grease and was slippery in a different way.

At least the mountains have gotten some moisture with what looks like more on the way. Maybe try another tire combo? Been having good luck with WTB breakouts with the dry conditions, a 2.5 up front on a wide derby rim has me feeling very confident right now.

I need to check out some of your spots. Do you actually go for bike rides, or are you just lugging your bike to cool spots and hopping on to take some photos? (serious question- as in I've ridden Tahoe for over a dozen years and while there's tons of sweet trails and I keep discovering new stuff, most of the stuff in your pics looks more funner.)

There are rid-able granite zones like this in greater Tahoe area though, ping me if your around south lake and wanna check it out.

I do sometimes lug my bike to the top of a hill, but there needs to be a cool riding experience for the way down to be had by doing so, not just to get a cool photo.

Be cool to ride with ya! I know you have at least been in the vicinity of the trail in the video as you posted a photo last year of a granite zone in the same area. And yea what RootSkier said you have been killing it with rad shots and locations! !

God damn... the north bay (California) is so fucking dry right now. I have more wipe-outs in the last month or so than the previous year and a half combined. It's hard to scale back on the speed that much but it's getting difficult to gauge traction.

Just buy good tires and lean sideways, sliding until you hit something. I mean it WILL happen eventually, and then you'll go in roughly the direction you're pointed.

Ha, yeah, that's my normal mentality... not afraid of a little dirt surfing... and I just put on a fresh set of DH II's a few weeks ago, but when the thing you're going to eventually hit is a tree or fall into a creek bed that's not quite as fun.

Rico, CO - Calico National Rec Trail. Its not one of the mega-hyped durango rides so pretty much nobody but locals rides it. It was day 5 of the trip, might get to posting later today.

Popped my Downieville cherry. I brought along an extremely casual rider from work, who just destroyed his hands because he doesn't wear gloves. The rental Bronson was a huge step up from the 1999 Specialized junker he normally rides.

There's a smile under my chin bar too.

He hung in there pretty well, considering.

Thunderstorms the day before made for hero dirt all around.

What would happen if one just rode up the Stewart Peak trail past the wilderness boundary? Can they enforce that?

Well besides being an asshole it wouldn't get you very far if you wanted to go up stuart peak. And then I don't know what the trails are like if you kept going to mosquito or over to the main corridor. And I did actually see a hiker past the boundary.
