I meant Mt. Snow being open on Wednesday doesn't make Mt. Snow any better than...Mt. Snow. Still not seeing the point of comparing Aspen or A-Basin (or Colorado) to Magic (BTW, I've skied at Magic, Aspen, and A-Basin on various Wednesdays--not sure what was going on, but I didn't notice anything unusual).
If that's true it's more senseless than I had imagined.
But about this 156cm thing...
[quote][//quote]
I've seen that from Benny, but I just assume that's him throwing any rock he can find at the Magic glass house.
Look, the guy's free to shit on Magic all he wants--I'm not aware of him going after any other place that way (he sure seems to like Killington and any ski area within 5 hours of Denver). I was just wondering what's behind it (actually, I have a theory about it, but it's a little involved and probably boring--and it actually kind of supports Benny in this thing, which now that I think about it is a little weird).

Bingo. Somehow that turned into 156mm skis. It was the 3000 dollar t shirts that I thought were so pathetic. And then the dick swingers were off to the races. Now, you won't be skiing on Saturday, let alone Wednesday.
Oh, and, the Aspen mountains aren't close enough for a day trip, but, find a cheap motel in Glenwood Springs and a soak in same said Springs, you're close enough after a short evening drive.
Oh, and, double Oh, I never really "shit" on Magic. I just "shit" on the mad devotion to a failing southern Vermont mountain, especially when the poor fools were throwing good money at bad. Goes way back to watching people bum in Vermont for a season. My response has always been, wtf are you doing here if this is the life you want? It's not as though you're holding down a serious job or something. Go west, young man. The mountains out there are open on Wednesday.
Hey MAGICSNOWBOARD PM sent about a sled I am selling......
Peruvian thanks for the animal house speech....LMAS hope you are well as the rest of the magic mtn maggots.
Benny are you always such a negative Nancy toolbag?????
always forward but never straight
After the youngsters and snowbladers track up the EC trees with the shorties, 156cm kinda makes sense to me in a can't beat 'em join 'em way.
On the $3K thing, I'll let those who were former 'owners' fight that battle.

no battle there, they lost their money
After Ullrfest and likely after a solid press release. Don't want to deal with Mr. Everytwat's ramblings, assumptions and bullshit tbh.
Just one point- Rob has had the lion's share of the mountain since Aichholz sold out. That's a long time. Why it's such a massive deal breaker to everyone all of a sudden I have no idea, but talk of not buying passes, foreclosure etc. is bullshit IMO.
Also Tom & Co. has been working their asses off all summer to fix up Red & Black, so wtf- wasn't that everyone's main gripe anyways?
The social media shit is easy and they've been taking care of the hard shit. Re-fucking-lax people. Jesus Christ.
Also I have to say it- I know a lot more than I care to share at this point simply from the high level of douchebaggery going on over what people want to know. It doesn't docking matter, guys. It really doesn't. You're getting ourselves all jacked up for no reason. None. Trust me when I say the show will go on no matter what. Above and beyond that, STFU & STFD unless you're planning on getting in the trenches and helping in some way- no matter what happens. I would have loved to see something happen but my loyalties reside with the pile of dirt and rocks we ski on no matter who owns what or who is running anything. Period.

Well, you'd think they'd be a little happier. And wake up on powder days.
help how? what trenches? i'll talk about me, and not speak for anyone else. there has been a lot of bad faith and broken promises made to people that have spent time and money advocating for magic. i am a customer of magic and would like to be treated a certain way. my expectation of what i can expect from magic the business, not magic the mountain covered in snow, has eroded to the point where spending goodwill in the face of zero return goodwill is something that at this exact moment isnt going to happen. it pains me and my plans are fucked up as a result.
I'm glad you have info that says that everything will be great there, and that the improvements will continue. i believe you and am hopeful. But there is nothing wrong with expecting a company to earn your business. You wouldn't treat your customers that way for one second.
when their business office is closed, and passes aren't on sale, and no one is saying shit, what are people expected to think?
Hi DW,
Why is tom working on the mountain? That is the part that doesn't make any sense. Because he is a minority owner?
The Rutland people are strung out on junk, and they don't ski. I'm talking about the kids from Springfield, Ma. and Ballston Spa, NY who come to Killington and think it's the Valhalla of party towns, compared to the crappy places they grew up in, and then just start drinking.
Yeah, why should people STFU unless they're 'in the trenches'? What does that even mean? If you're a volunteer at a Magic event are you in the trenches? Spend a day thinning glades? What qualifies someone to comment on this or question what's going on? Why does it even matter where the questions or comments are coming from? Either they're legitimate or not. It doesn't matter if you're trying to help the mountain or just buying an occasional day pass. Simply because someone has committed time (or money) to the mountain doesn't mean they have some special right to comment on things.

fuck off dex, that my little brother, you can't speak to him that way.
They must be working their asses off. That's the only reason nobody answers the phone. Thanks for the grand MMP.
He & I are discussing this. "Give em a call, $1000 says nobody picks up"

magic is a drama show. it's too bad. how does a skiing based ski area make money in commuting distance of the tri states area and massachussetes? It has good terrain and caters to skiers as best it can. It has a great vibe that brings dentists back to when they fell in love with the sport. That said, time after time, it falls flat on it's face. It really points to the fact you can't run an area without real estate development. The real estate development pays for the amenities skiers now demand (top to bottom snow making - fast lifts - reduced waits). Is Magic that kind of place? No, I don't think so.
The average skier is not into what Magic has. Combine that with less people getting in the sport and the price of going out west for a ski vacation and Magic has a tough outlook. On top of that, you have stakeholder(s) that see the mountain as an investment in itself. I wonder if Magic's owners really understand the business?
To me it's not clear that Magic is a 'failing' area (as Benny said) or falling flat on its face. I've never seen anything beyond some informal numbers (who knows, maybe that's all Magic has anyway), but my belief is that everything has been headed in the right direction for a number of years now. There are/were legacy debt issues that were never properly addressed, but looking at things now and going forward I think Magic could be viable (with something like the current business model--again, insofar as Magic has a structured business model).
