reading the article, i don't think that Geoff started an LLC necessarily means that it will take over the mountain operation. i do find it concerning that Tom's LLC was closed though, in April it sounded like he was planning for next year and beyond. If he were to continue running the operation i wonder why he would close the LLC

He probably forgot to pay his filling fees.

So let's do some math...no charts tho.

I skied 36 days at Magic last year and only 2 of those were on days they weren't open. I skied 5 days that they were open at other areas and spent one skiable day hunting Heady Topper in BTV with Kokomas. I was also a wimp and missed 5 days when the weather wasn't so hot. I also missed 3 powder days and a full weekend playing golf in SC. So I could have skied 50 open days without even trying hard.

At $489, that makes the daily cost $9.78 for, as Kokomas so aptly stated, a private ski area.

It's true they aren't open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, but there's plenty of open space for dirty locals on Thursdays and Fridays.

Here's a question: how does Magic compare with Killington for vertical drop? The biggest vert on any lift at Killington the same as Magic's Red Chair. Look it up...

As MSB noted, there are big things brewing in the background. Also as Rusty noted, I wouldn't jump in on a pass just yet.

This is a bit like comparing penis size and forgetting to measure girth.

    Clues...I love clues
A Lambo engine would work too. Imagine an Italian V12 filling the valley with its sweet mechanical song on a crisp winter morning.

A Lambo engine would provide the requisite Red Chair reliability...

I wouldn't be. Something like this has happened almost every year for the past 5 years or so and if anything Magic's footing has improved substantially in recent years. I don't even know what the deal really is and I don't care. We will be skiing in December. Not going to even contribute to the hearsay or confusion by speculating. I'm just going to work on trees this summer as always, retake my OEC and show up with a white cross in December ready to kick ass and save broken people in said trees. It's all that plebes such as myself can really do.

I'm not getting into the whole patrol thing again. But man I can't wait to blatantly duck a rope right in front of you. I'll be hoping for a chase of course.

Also good luck to anyone hoping to be in front of me EVER this season haha

I took all the veiled rumors as positives, not negatives. I have no doubt Magic will be open come winter or that I'll be there. I was thinking that the "wait to buy a pass" sentiments were suggesting that a new deal might mean lower prices or added benefits.

Well, on any Wednesday, Killington clearly wins. Do I get a gold star?

And while I'd love a supa-cheap pass as much as the next guy, just consider some pass prices from other small mountains without any real-estate or big-corporation backing to offset things:

Willard Mtn: $405 earlybird, can't find regular price
West Mtn: $449 earlybird, $649 regular
Plattekill: $669 earlybird, can't find regular price
Pico Only: $439 earlybird, can't find regular price

Plattekill is probably the most comparable hill, also being open only weekends and offering a similar amount of amenities.
middlebury snow bowl 410 early (before 12/1) after 500 - winner winner chicken dinner on price

    on quality, hands down pico

why would anyone buy a magic pass when they can ski pico?

$1300 for a pass? Fuck that. Unless you can ski exclusively weekdays there's just no reason to submit yourself to Kmart. Fucking crowded gapertown.

October, November, and May are the only excuses for Kmart--unless something like ASC returns with a cheap pass. So many far better options.

Used to be able to consistently do the midweek, but if you're locked into weekends and don't want to go too far north it's Magic all the way. As a coach from MRG commented to me at a VT state race this spring, Magic is the only 'real mountain' in VT south of Sugarbush. Guy has a point.

rocked the sugarbush pass for years, can't afford it anymore...hence the snowbowl for me

once my littlest gets a little stronger, I will probably make the drive and switch to pico. or move in with the squeeze who lives down there
