Also- question for the SoVT experts: My parents are looking for a quick getaway for the weekend but I'm a B&B n00b (not really my thing). What's the best recc you've got for a quiet, comfy place that's Vermonty as fuck without being too far?

I like the Bromley View Inn. It's been a few years since I've stayed there but there were dogs in the bar, a wood burning stove in our room, and of course a view of Bromely.

With that said I am sure others have better or more interesting ideas.

Nope, that'll do. They're bringing my nephew up so proximity to the Bromley Tourist Trap is apparently of more importance than I would have assumed otherwise.

Being this is the Magic thread I was going to suggest Dostals.

Its real pretty there but I'll echo if you want to catch fish stay away from Gale Meadows. Not sure what is going on there as it looks like prime largemouth habitat on the stumpy section, but if there's any there they're real grumpy.

My VT neighbor and fest vet swears by the Dairy Brook Inn, but I don't see it on the web.

^^^seriously cannot recommend L'derry Inn. Unless you have section 8 housing vouchers.

BVI is a good choice or head to the Landgrove Inn.

The Mrs & I stayed at the Arlington Inn for Valentines Day in 01-02ish and it was a nice place. Really good food too. A lot can change in 15 years though.

I thought I heard someone mention that a company was installing a new tower at the top of the mtn and the company leasing the land was improving the grading and drainage on the access road running up the hill so they can get equipment up & down to install & maintain the site.

It's a rural access internet tower. Can see it from my house...not real attractive but the folks that hang in the lodge with a laptop will certainly appreciate it. Not sure what the plan is for the end game. They essentailly dropped tons of 4" rock to make the road up. If they don't bulldoze that, it will take a significant amount of snowmaking to cover the main trail down early sesaon.

You heard right--and I think the tower thing is done, but I may not be right on that.

I didn't go down to L-derry this weekend but it wasn't done last weekend.

Also I'm amazed it even needs to be said, but Maggots flat out build Magic up and will forever. Every year there's more to ski and I like it that way. It's never the same. From the trees positively stacked with sweat equity to the volly carpentry projects all over to the dozens of us who call it home there just isn't anywhere else like it. "Cheers on skis" is an understatement, it's a family through & through. I could never expect outsiders to really get it and I understand that angle too.
Magic is so much more, and I can't even put it into words. It truly needs to be lived, not just skied to be fully understood.

Pico feels like the blue collared step child of K-Town.
How does it compare to Magic? Apples and Kiwi... Magic makes up for the lack of infrastructure and a well organized administration with the "Cheers" atmosphere. It does own the hangin out on the back porch feel, but if your outside the TGR greater network, this place can feel clicky and your an interloper. Terrain? Magic has it cold; more consistent pitch, lots of variety, and the effort put in by the Illuminati make "hidden door to the left" an option just about anywhere. Just don't expect to find it on your own.

Magic is not cliquey. In fact it's exactly the opposite Big G. I have met people on the red chair and immediately taken them to the goods. That's how I fell in love with the place and just want to pay it forward. Most of the regulars feel the same way.

Dude I just marked down some days last night! Three to be exact. One August, one Sept and one Oct that will coincide with Ullrfest weekend for radness/pow karma multiplier factor. Let me run them by Santa Klaus and I'll hopefully be able to post them up tomorrow.


Ullrfest is a lock though. Everybody up there loves having it and it's fully expected at this point. I get asked about it pretty regularly.

It's never too early to start planning Ullr-fest! I have located the sacrificial skis that I lost track of last year. One will become a shot-ski (if anybody ever gets tired of the fireball luge) and the other will be burned. Lemme know if/when you want to do some work outside of the planned days. I have HT for you.
