Don't know good whisky until you've had Kentucky Deluxe.

Finally got my Stagg after almost two years on the list.

This one is a Christmas gift for the old man, so I'll have to wait a little longer to taste it.

Edit: I'm a little bummed about the lower ABV in the 2013 batch.

Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

distillers usually do this because they determine that the burn is covering some flavor aspect they want to highlight.

Stagg is cask strength, so no silly business. They chose barrels that were in a lower, cooler location in the warehouse for the 2013. Less evaporation, lower ABV.

Old Grand Dad 114 FTW. If only SC/NC stocked some Weller 12 I wouldn't need anything else. Still haven't opened my expensive stuff because I see no reason to. Tho the William LaRue Weller Antique collection will have to go soon.

My favorite value Bourbon with good taste to have neat is 'Eagle Rare' 90 proof & sells for something like $25-28, aged for 10 years. If I'm going higher, I'll take some Blanton's.
Always charging it in honor of Flyin' Ryan Hawks.

Fack yeah that 114 is good! We've a little trouble getting it lately but I still have a bit left in my current bottle. Old Grand Dad 114 + Dolin sweet vermouth + Peychauds bitters + 2 homemade Maraschino cherries = 1 stupid good Manhattan

    ...a question and an answer...

i haven't followed this thread that closely, as i don't drink much bourbon, is that still the focus or could/should it be a general good whiskey thread?

answer: Forty Creek Barrel Select Canadian Blended Whisky.
fucking delicious, aged in cognac barrels. Dude is a recovering winemaker in Ontario, stoked to be an indy Canuckbooze creator.
better, smoother and cheaper than Crown. I don't say that lightly...

Forty Creek is definitely good whisky.

Canadian whisky seems to be undergoing a revival.

Another really good one is Alberta Premium's Dark Horse. A rye blend that includes around 10% bourbon (to bring the thread back on track).

Without rules we'd all be up trees flinging feces at eachother for dominance. . . or just post on TGR.

Back to bourbon, anyone had Lexington yet? I was given a bottle from a buddy at a party we hosted recently.

Not sure what the price point is, but it hit (to me at least) those Buffalo Trace notes. 87 I think and looks like it's from Bowling Green, KY (Hilltoppers?) but going to the website it's Western Spirits?

Not bad for a free fifth of bourbon to add to the rack if you ask me.

EDIT: Oh, and it's named after the thoroughbred, not the town too fwiw.

For you people who can even find PVW any vintage , None to be had here. Cruiser recommended both Noah's Mill and Rowan's Creek. After having sampled both. Each is excellent.

Remember those Peanuts comics that started out "Happiness is..."?

We'll let me tell you what unhappiness is. Open invite to Proof on Main at the 21c in Louisville this week for the swine and Pappy event. James Beard-Award winning food and chefs and open pours of every Van Winkle product. - And not being able to make it, but able to read and see all the glory it was from your friends on Facebook.

    Bullshit.

My LLS also recommended Weller 12. I'd never buy it again. Not bad, but pretty ordinary. I tried EH Taylor small batch and it's my new daily bourbon.

It's from the same wheated buffalo trace stock that the Van Winkles pull from, thus why people like it as a pappy sub. But rock on for the EH Taylor, not much of a fan myself, but I hear the tornado survivor bourbon is something fierce.
