For you Colorado folks: Tin Cup Whiskey from the Stranahan folks (which I hate).

Not much on Google, but a really nice sipper. Whiskey up front, bourbon in the rear. I like it a lot. Very impressed. Smooth, then a tiny bit of smoke/barrel. Yum. Good shit.

And it takes a lot to impress my palate. I think they knocked this one out of the park. I'll go on record. No idea of how many bottles/barrels.

How can you hate someone for making booze? Did they sleep with your sister?

Sent from my Nexus 7 using TGR Forums

I opened it, and ^that shit is awesome. Smo-o-o-oth and refined. I might like it better than the 20 yo, especially for the price. Just a very civilized whiskey.

Anyone tried George T. Stagg Jr.? I did some interweb shopping last night after a few drinks and was so excited to see GTS available I ordered 2 bottles before I noticed the Jr. Reviews on it aren't great.

Just visited a mega liquor store in KY that was bourbon heaven ,and was very pleased with their recommendation of Rowan's Creek. At $30 and 100 proof, it beats Blanton's for me.

MTM - I'm not a huge fan of Stranahan's either, seems too harsh to me. Is that your dislike as well? Interested to try the Tin Cup, but not sure if I want to splurge for a whole bottle.

CO Folks - Any other CO Bourbons that are on par with Breckenridge? That's currently my favorite, but would love to try another CO distillery.

Stranahans actually has no part in the making of this whiskey. It's produced by their parent company and marketed to be similar. Pretty sure it's available nation wide. Probably just some bulk whiskey. IMO it's ok, but not worth the $35 I spent on it.

I had thought the same and then started giving it a splash of water. A little bit really tones down the alcohol and opens up the rest of the flavors. More so than a cube even.

Was it the The Party Source? If so that place is heaven on earth. It's WalMart sized and nothing but booze and booze accessories. They even broke ground on their own on-site distillery.

Got it. Tried it. Big flavor, 134.5 proof. I let it sit in a Glencairn glass w/ a small ice cube for a few minutes. Lots of cherry, vanilla and oak. The finish is extremely long w/ less burn that you'd expect. I'm usually good for 2-3 glasses after dinner. This was one and done. More of a special occasion/I'm going to impress a friend than an everyday sipper. IMHO a good value at $48 a bottle. (re: Stagg Jr.)

LLS held a Pappy raffle tonight to dispose of their 16 bottles of allotted Van Winkle tonight. Show up get a ticket between 6 and 7 and then at 7 if your number was call called you could buy whatever you wanted. There was 1 15 y/o bottle, various 10 Van Winkles, Ryes and some very choice 20-some-odd year Jeffrsons.

    MY TICKET WAS CALLED FIRST!!!

Long story short I paid way too much to add that 15 to my collection (which won't be opened till May) and even had offers in the lot up to $600 for it. No sale fellas.

It now sits among my Black Maple Hill, Woodford Double Oak, Single barrel Four Roses, Eagle Rare 17, and copious Woodford among others.

    Super stoked!

Their Scotch (The Yamazaki 12 or 18) is great, and now they can just re-use barrels they already own. I'm ok with it... better than InBev or VA.

eh? I think by law, they can't reuse the barrels. Cooper protection act.

the owner of my local described Beam as massively dysfunctional. that true?

and fuck, is there anywhere that ships Virginia Gentleman?

The yearly allotment if VW 10 has become pretty consistent. Right before Christmas, making it difficult not to buy and share w family. The price is up again. It's damn nice, and well rounded for a 10 year, but definitely not the bargain it used to be. Gotta get my hands on some Weller 10.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Has anybody mentioned Four Roses Single Barrel? Probably. Sitting here consuming second of two big shots. Very good value. Hot and sweet, but smooth.

Just like that blonde with dorky bald guy checking me out checking her out. Hot and sweet.

I bought a bottle yesterday. It's really smooth and a good value, but too much rye for my taste. I guess that's what makes a horse race.

Regrettably, I ended up selling my bottle of 23yr of PVW - I couldn't pass up the offer, but it still bummed me out. This past weekend though, a friend had a party who has a decent collection of bourbon and was excited to let me sample quite a few since I enjoyed it, including a 2012 PVW 23. I also had Buffalo Trace and a few others. Super generous of him - it definitely made my night. To date though, my favorite is George T Stagg. I had a glass of this on NYE and will definitely be keeping an eye out for it this fall. I now enjoy it more than any PVW I've had.
