I was gonna post this TR up in here, but decided not to clog up this thread with a billion pictures. Of course, there was gopro action, this time with very little editing time, so it sort of drags on.
Roche de Smet (Jasper NP front range) on saturday, with Seymose:

Next stop: Mount Pyramid, in a few weeks, maybe... Is the fire road closed right at Pyramid lake or further up? anybody know?
I've been busy with work for the past month, but I managed to get out to Slush Cup a week ago. Had a few more questions about the touring thing.
One, where and what type of skins should I be getting for ON3P billy goats? Do they need to a bit larger than the ski so that they can be cut to fit?
Second, what the heck are binding crampons and are they necessary?
Third and last, have any of you done a trip to South America before in like mid/late July and how was it? I'm thinking about going to somewhere in Chile with another friend, but I'm trying to understand the logistics of it and whether I could find other people on here that are also interested in this kind of thing.
Crazy vid, looked like he was in over his head ability wise.
There is no 1 right skin as it comes down to preference of the individual. If you're going up some what steepish skin tracks and hunting for down more than up then I usually go 1 size wider than the waist of the ski. So for a 115mm waist I go with a 120mm wide skin and then trim them with the provided trimming tool. If it were me buying Billy Goats I would go with 120 wide skins. The traction under foot is what counts. Personally I like BD skins as it's super easy to get spare parts such as tail clips, tip loops etc. For me, I start skinning in September and usually don't stop until June so I beat the shit out of skins on rocks / boulder fields and dirt ect more than most as I don't give a fuck...skis and skins are meant to be used and abused and for that reason I always choose the Ascensions...I have beaten the living fuck out of them and they hold up day after day after day after day and have great traction for the up at a bit of cost of glide. There are better gliding skins out there but if it's that flat then I don't use them anyways. There are also marginally lighter skins out there but if your that worried about such a small difference then you got other problems, lots of better places to save weight. One, where and what type of skins should I be getting for ON3P billy goats? Binding crampons, are they neccessary no and even more so no if you don't know what they are. Around here not an issue until late spring when the crusts are bomb proof and even then you can usually work around needing them with route selection. Nice to have when you need them. If couloirs are your thing then your better off getting crampons for your boots.
I should put up some pics soon....
...the main thing to remember is there is no steep skiing near the huts
For anyone that goes and skis the shoulder line of St. Nic far skiers left of the rock bands...beers are on me that thing is fucking gnarly.
Well tat was fun.stoked!!Attachment 116332
There was 3 of us, so probably. I don't think it's snowed much since then. We had dust on edgeable crust for the top 1/3rd, then pow to the saddle. So much fun ripping the high speed corn from the saddle down to the moraines eh?
Ya super fun just pinning it up the walls for a big slash.
Grinch, I think I met you guys coming off. Something about a nickel? Anyways, I snapped some pics on my drive south...

nice work go_up and grinch. Looks real good right now. good stoke.
starting to get into MTB mode, but would be pumped to get up high. Tried to do flower and pacman on monday, pacman was absolute garbage so I enjoyed some good corn down bow summit instead.
Hey CF, yes that was us. good to meet ya. hope the trip is going well. i'm back in Revy now. can't help but think Mt Lefroy would be money. sheltered north up high around the lake has some good pen. TSF Temple
Sick stoke guys. Is that scramble route on temple that you where skiing grinch. Looks super sick. If so did you have to down climb at all or manage to shred er top to bottom. Props either way.
yes, pretty much scramble route. we didn't go all the way to sentinel pass though. up the middle of the basin then angled to the scramble route. skied top to bottom. bottom half corn and 10-20 cm of fresh off the top. west ridge was boney though. if there wasn't so much snow and soft slab in the guts you could cut in 5-800 vert below the summit and find a line down the middle
That's awesome definitely going to have to do that some day!
