best hour and a half of skiing all year at the Beav. COLD....-12 at the bottom of Grouse but really good snow. I'd say 4 yesterday and 5 since the lifts closed. Not blower except for the very top, rest wasn't really wet but supportive. That felt nice! Eastern end of the zone didn't get as much, my wife is in a hut up on Vail Pass and they got 4 or 5.

Good stuff. Took a run at Steamboat this morning before the conference and it was nice. Hear the trees were money. Forecast went about as expected...front was a bit late getting through I-70 so a bit less snow during the Monday than I thought, but overall - I can't really make a better forecast. In fact, most forecasts worked out great.

Next up - tons of moisture. Warmest temps late Thursday. Best snow falls on Friday, late Saturday, and Monday. Powder days could be:

    Friday: OK
    Saturday PM: Better
    Monday: Awesome

Joel- any thoughts on snow levels? Looks like it might not be the 10k that was once feared but 9k? Higher? Lower?

A-basin was cold, groomed, and sticky as shit. Looked like they were gonna try to open some terrain later today, but nothing new this am.

Vail was money today! Still a bit crowded because of the lack of back bowls, but Northwoods was great. No complaints at all. Best day of the year!

Vail skiied really soft early in the morning. NE facing Trees were not Blower but super fun pow. Damn it just felt good to ski some soft snow! Coverage is still hurting, but a few more storms and the sharks should not be a factor. The mtn was douched by 11.

Sure... wrong thread, wrong mountains, wrong state... but man, it sounds good, doesn't it? How often do you get to see something like that in the inner mountain zone?

Beav was nice today...nicest day so far. Still found a couple sharks, and one great white. I have a lil Ptex date...but it was way worth it.

Vail was great this AM....I had some big problems and I think it was just the temperature of the snow, my skis did not want to slide at all. had fresh all temp wax on them, but still very 'sticky'.

@Neezer - I had cold wax on and it still didn't fuckin matter. when i got on chair 4 early this morning for my first lap the digital thermometer at midvail read -17F. Other thermometers had similar or colder readings...it was just rediculously cold.

Either way, today was fucking awesome. In my opinion it really was not crowded given the amount of terrain that was open. Compared to the weekend and holiday periods, I'd say it was a fairly local crowd out there.

Hopefully more terrain will open soon.

Just pulled the trigger on a flight to JH from Denver, leaving Thurs evening and back Sunday evening. United has a bunch of weekend flights available for only 20K miles from Denver to JH. Only issue is that with the snow they're getting the JH airport may close, but the same's true of the highway and I'd rather be stuck at DIA than on the side of the road in Pinedale.

I thought about that. Still a good deal by the time I pay the $80 fee, plus the $50 RT bag fee, plus rent a car (since I am staying in town and not skiing the resort much) But the masochistic hellride is half the fun!

FWIW, you can rent a standard SUV on Hotwire for $33/day in JH right now, so the rental car cost is about the same as what it'll cost in gas to drive RT from Denver area. Can't argue that the hellride is an experience, though.

more snow is totally tight butthole. wrenegades are finally going to be mounted. i know its still going to be way thin out there for them, but i'm all antsy in the pantsy and the pattern change and a superbowl weekend trip to jackson: fuck it, go time.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Looking at the 6-hr intervals, Sunday is gonna be the day (likely 1"+ ppt overnight and throughout the day). Hoping for enough leftovers on Monday.

Have a refundable ticket to Anchorage booked for Saturday that I'm strongly considering cancelling for a roadtrip to Jackson.
