To be fair to SSV they probably did get that snow accumulation.

I was there on Thursday and it was a genuine 21cm. I was surpised they didn't update it to more at 8am or noon as they have in the past to pump the numbers.

It snowed all day Thursday to add to the 21 but was getting beaten down. They quoted a 24hr accumulation which was 6amThurs to 6am Friday. Looks like you just picked the wrong day.

Kickinghorse was awesome today! Skied much better than the 2cm reported would suggest... came in with some wind to fill in a lot. Nice (and surprisingly deep) lines were had on CPR ridge and in Feuz, then the bootpack to Superbowl opened and it was the run(s) of the year for me. Two shots down T1 in hero snow (don't think it opened during the storm at all until today), and one run down Truth to finish the day.

FYI there's a small 6-foot mandatory in the choke point on the skiers left entry into Truth with not a whole lot of room to check up afterwards. Not really too sketchy but could catch some unaware.
Goal: ski in the 2018/19 season

No. I was there Thursday and that was a genuine 21. But today they updated everything with 23cm but then corrected it to 9cm (I saw the whiteboard at the base with 23 on it early, then they changed to 9 later in the day).

Wasn't there today so I can't vouch for that.

But you mentioned them being totally useless this year,
Other than New Years - which I missed as I was at KH - they haven't got squat and haven't reported any more than that.

I don't have any issue with the reported amounts and have found them accurate.

Ok, maybe i'm exaggerating when I say consistently useless. But I ski there 5/6 days a week and on a number of occasions this year they've reported bumper snow on the report early on (20cms plus) only to correct to much smaller amounts late morning time. One day they were reporting 25ish on the website, facebook and the even on the whiteboard at the bottom of the gondy even though you could tell just when loading that they'd had a cm or two at the most - later in the day they then corrected everything to 3cms fallen (did the person updating the whiteboard hoenestly not think, wait a minute...where the fuck is this foot of snow i'm claiming?). I've called them out on this on occasion and they've admitted putting wrong reports up and said they were experiencing glitches with the reports this year.

They do previous 24 hours? If so then if it pukes the day before in the morning then naturally the 24 hour total is going to shrink through the next morning. 24 hour totals are stupid anyways. The 12 hour total in the a.m. is what matters for resort.

Didn't get a pass there this year, but I used to find it pretty frustrating too. I learned that dividing it by 10 was usually a pretty good rule of thumb to go by. Ie 30cm really = 3cm. I think they have problems with decimal points up there. Lake Louise on the other hand....

5-6 days a week? Sorry, but you don't have anything to complain about.

the snow totals in the morning are not for you locals, they're for kids from the big city who are making a decision whether to turn off to SSV at 8am, or continue to LL...

How does number of days skied have any relevence to whether or not a resort should get their snow report roughly in the correct ball park?

I'm not bitching about them massaging their figures a bit. I'm on about the times they've been 15-20 cms out and have corrected, even admitted their error, within the same day. It makes no odds to me as i'll be skiing either way. As f2f says though that's a pretty big fuck up for those who check the snow reports in order to decide where they're skiing for the day. Finding out at 11am that the resort posted completely erroneous info only to have corrected it once you're there isn't great if people may have decided to go elsewhere - by then it's far too late.

As for 12 hr totals time2clmb is bang on - that's far more useful info to have. Even that's irrelevent though if the resort posts completely the wrong amount initially and then corrects themselves later in the day.

Unfortunately another fatality. I was going to head over there today and ski Molar trees by getting there the lower route but I may change my plans.

In addition another man (different incident, earlier) was air lifted by STARS in non-life threatening, serious condition after hitting a tree whilst backcountry skiing.

Purchase might be an option too as the prices have seemed to have dropped over the last few years.
Avalanche Safety Solutions rents them for $30/day (just the pack, Snowpulse). If you're going to do more than one day ask Chuck for a discount, I'm sure he would swing one.

i'm not saying they're lying per se, just that they're fudging the numbers a bit -- reporting for different periods, adding periods together, etc. last year, in the height of the patroller fiasco, there were many a day where we skied "10 cm powder" which fell in the "past mumble hours/days".

if they report 20cm i'm inclined to think that 20cm did fall at some point in the past week in their quiet measuring spot off wawa (at least i think it's there), but it's always a wind game up there, so the snow may have moved off standish, blown in the dive, etc...

LL is much easier to predict in that respect.

    Problem is dropping it off.

When are going to be back through Golden? If I'm in town you can leave it at mine and I'll take it back to ASS the next morning.

Sorry to hear that sfb. Hope you're wrong about that. I've yet to meet someone I'd completely trust to dig me out who I didn't have to pay to make turns with. Trees.

Ya true f2f and the density of of snow varies a lot so they could get 20cm and 1 mm of precip I guess. The wind screws things up too. But either way... when you wake up in the morning, you kinda know whether there's been a storm or not. I've got a lot of great memories from SSV but I've also been there when they said 15 cm or whatever and there was 1 or 2 cm. My SSV days are over. That kind of bs isn't worth $80 imo. Plus it kinda gives you an idea of what the management thinks about being truthful and integrity when it comes to making a buck.

Unfortnately, this was a FoF who was skiing at Chatter Creek and hit a tree early on his last day. Early prognosis after surgery is paralyzed below the waist. Was a young ER doc in Calgary. Horrible end to what a spectacular trip to Chatter.
