Should be another deeeeeeeep day at KH, another 18cm's overnight although those 124km/hr winds may have made things interesting!

As for RCR, sounds like they have some big plans for KH and I don't mean infrastructure. Employee salaries and wages will decrease, they want their own people in up top and there is talk of having to load your gear in the gondy Revy style to save on a few lifties. Just talking to those RCR guys gives me a greasy feeling about the whole operation.

    Yesterday at Marmot was unreal!!!
1cm at 8 am and close to 20 when we left at 4. Storm skiing at its finest. Every run just got better. Warm temps with snain falling at the base but super dense fun pow up top. Drifts galore with ample face shots. Couldn't see shit in the Alpine but that didn't stop us from shredding it anyways. Eagles East skied amazing top to bottom and amazingly enough untracked at 3 pm. Last run on the knob was knee to waist deep.
I love Marmot pow days! The skill level here is not that high so when visability is sketchy people freak out and ski the same iced up groomer all day leaving us free to blow shit up like powder gangsters!

Today should rule as they are reporting 25 cm in 24 hours. I'm sure it will be much deeper in places. Wish I didn't have to work.

How is Fernie skiing these days? Thinking about heading down there for the weekend. Is Castle worth a visit yet?

    thanks!

Fernie snow report says spring skiing and not going below freezing at night.

    Craig says something similar: http://www.redtree.com/far

    SSV skied great this morning!
Might have time to upload a video later.

Got a bonus early run in the chutes as the lifties loaded the chair prior to patrol giving the clearance....or maybe just a mix up.

Came down to it delayed so hit Angel and then Wawa trees.
    Angel was windfucked.

Got into Wild West just after opening today and got three laps in. It was money with barely any traffic.

Nice to see that 2012 has brought everyone some snow! Well, everyone but Red. My new years cat trip at Big Red was cancelled due to shitty conditions and temps so warm that the cat roads were falling apart! Oh well, we rebooked so all is well.

the pkwy was very nice last weekend and we'll see how the lake is doing on sunday.

Skiing at Fernie wasn't very good today. It was warm yesterday and today the whole mountain was pretty solid. After a couple of runs we called it a day. It's lightly snowing in town and there is some snow in the forecast so conditions might improve, however at this point I wouldn't bother coming down unless you have a pass and free/cheap place to stay.

Flying the Bluehouse colors in Western Canada! Let me know if you want some rad skis!!

"He is god of snow; the one called Ullr. Son of Sif, step son of Thor. He is so fierce a bowman and ski-runner that none may contend! He is quite beautiful to look upon and has all the characteristics of a warrior. It is wise to invoke the name of Ullr in duels!"

Nothing official, just in my conversation with a couple of RCR guys regarding their first thoughts of KH and its' operations. Unfortunately RCR needs to cut costs some where to increase their profit margin or in reality, decrease their loss margin. As most ski hill staff are easily replaceable (minus mtn safety) they see this is an easy way to lower costs. If you don't like the lower pay, they will have someone else to fill the position.

I really hope that these guys, after rolling through all the books, decide to keep things the way they are regarding staffing and management.

Wow, so RCR guys are going around telling complete strangers that wages are going to be cut and people laid off.

Not a good start. Unofficially, of course.

Anyone know where i can rent an ABS airbag or similiar at a good price?
Purchase might be an option too as the prices have seemed to have dropped over the last few years.

Avanlanche Safety Solutions in Golden apparently rent them, don't know if the UofC rental center does and I don't think anyone else in Cowtown does.

I picked a BCA Float 36 this morning at MEC for 795 incl canister. They had one Snowpulse base kit marked down from 1100 to 795, as well. No idea what's included with it, though.

Thanks. Might check those guys out on my way through Golden.

Was looking at the BCA Float 18 at MEC but they are on backorder and short supply elsewhere.

Fernie was not horrible today, not great, but not horrible (well lower Curry was horrible). At least it wasn't busy From the snow reports, it sounds like Sunshine and Louise were the place to be, anyone ski there today?

    from MCR, West Bowl:

"Photo courtesy of Lake Louise snow safety. A lone skier triggered this
avalanche remotely as he skied by (size 1.5). Forecasters at Lake Louise
suspect it released on the basal weaknesses."

I was at Sunshine today. I was OB mostly where it was very good. Resort was skiing pretty soft as well for the two runs I did but don't trust a word of any of the bullshit snow reports coming from SSV at the moment - they've been consistently useless this year. Again today they reported a large 24hr total (23cms) only to correct it to a much lower figure a while later (9cms) (although the website is still showing the made up figure rather than the corrected one).
