Anyone going to Freshtival or did I miss that thread somewhere?
Flying the Bluehouse colors in Western Canada! Let me know if you want some rad skis!!

FYI - Groupon today for big red cats....$707 for 2 days of cat skiing with accomodations in early/late season

Just booked in for a new years trip with a couple buddies
PSA - if you call them direct TODAY, they'll honour the rate without going through Groupon (they save a little money that way, which is nice for them)
Hey Mountain Princess, have you decided yet? I've got my season pass for LL and I'm thinking of getting a midweek for Norquay for a little variety; the Big 2. Anyone looking for a ride from Canmore/Banff to the Lake and willing to share gas money can get in touch me throughout the season. I am a dirtbag fruitbooter just to warn you.
Isn't this thread starting just little early this season?

Will have a pass to ski at LL this year also. Although the whole car pool thing sounds rather frightening. If I get in your car I have to touch you throughout the season? That's fucked up man....i'm out. Although you do claim fruitbooter status so it should come as no suprise really.![]()

no worries . i went and took the wife to robertsons yesterday to go have a look . Either im building glacier danger up in my head or im just a pussy but turns out they freak me out . everything looked lightly bridged as you said . Not exactly something i wanted to play on for the first time alone .
anyone here living in revy this winter? looking for some info
Got my Plum Guides all mounted up and ready to rock. Was heading out for some turns tommorrow but todays warmth and high winds might really fuck what little quality there would have been.
Nah...early season around this time of year after the first snow falls and in to the next few months are the most dangerous to piss around on glaciers. Even more so if you are unfamiliar of where the slotted areas are. Some times it`s obvious, some times not so much..really depends on coverage.Either im building glacier danger up in my head or im just a pussy but turns out they freak me out . everything looked lightly bridged as you said .
I'll be making the trek to the Scary Big City and Freshtival for the early shows on Thu and Fri. Anyone up for the usual pre-show beers?
We can only hope:

Yep, it's the only thing keeping me working a 3 week on 1 week off rotation right now. After being the fucker that got sacrificed and stuck at work that week last January, i'm just not going to go back after Mid. December...problem solved.
At any rate, for anyone thinking of heading up to French glacier for turns, save yourself the hassle and don't do it. Better judgement prevailed and we left the skis in the car and it would absolutely suck carrying skis in to there from that side due to the bush. Bare ice to the col, but if you like to punish yourself you can probably get turns on the Hiag on the slope across the way...some freshly covered slots on it though so.... If going up from French creek side, wait until you can keep the skis on your feet. Windy as fuck.
There are crevasses, although they would dissapear later in the season with coverage as they are relatively small. Some big enough to fall into, easy to see right now as it's bare ice, and some of the slots have some snow in them that are sagging / very thin and weakly bridged. Some fresh snow and a bit of wind should hide the mentioned ones pretty good. The areas are easy to avoid if you know what to look for.
With all that said, I have totally written off French as a place to carry skis in to for pre / early season turns. The only way i'm going back is with enough snow to skin in. It would seriously seriously totally and completely suck trying to carry skis on the pack in to there as they would be snagging on every thing. Much cussing would ensue and typically that stuff doesn't bother me. Much better off going in to Robertson.
Not trying to make it sound worse than it is, just sticking to facts but here is a pic of the "bigger" slots, and this area is totally avoidable but wouldn't take all that much to hide them from view.
Bare ice virtually all the way to the col, with a wee bit of snow sitting on top right at the top, nothing worth skiing.
There is one slope on the Haig that looks nice, but getting there would totally suck and make for something like a 20+ km day (with only 2 km's skinable over 1000 metres gain, with only the final 150ish metres of gain skiable for turns, not to mention the shit fight with skis on back. Going in Robertson would actually not be much better due to that stupid scree slope.
