today was fun. i heard it was windy but i didn't really notice.
tr in the future
Well that explains all the slow cars on 50 even though the roads are clear up to Kyburz (a little slush from Pollock Pines to Scotts Tract but not much).
Seems like the snow level on 50 has been moving up and down ... And also sounds like 80 got more snow. We'll see ... I'm still nowhere near Camp Sac and just crawlinng crawling crawling due to all the traffic.

So stoked! Heading out to Reno sunday to house hunt and ski for the week. Lots of snow in forecast!
winds and storm are in lull now and the moon is shinin. easily a good foot of blower at 6,500' in the s shore cnty and less at stateline. tomorrow just might be ok. driving home at 1 am on pioneer there was a steady stream of cars heading into town. i'm guessing n shore bound folks who had to reroute to 50 and then up the east shore. eeeesh
80 open = Alpine bound! See you Bitches in the lineup!!

kona, hope to see you. And others, of course.
left roseville @ 545, hit wild cherries @ 745.
finally dug into the house, heading for alpine, on the hill around 1030, probably in my usual sartorial splendor.
holy shit there's a lot of snow.

Caution - this light & dry blower will reduce your visibility from time to time. However the base below is still there (annoyingly at times) to guide you if needed. Things tended to slide a sluff quite a bit this morn. More pow for the playing later on tonight / tomorrow.
only thing that can ruin a powder day, dealing with management at Kirkwood. A sad experience indeed.
Rose was exceptional today. Lots of pow, plenty of face shots.
The Chutes opened at 11:30, snowing all day, and it was quiet. ...Essentially no line at all after the opening bell and first run down the Chutes. Got first tracks on a few Chute runs. !
Good stuff!

Every man dies. Not every man lives.
You don’t stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop playing.
Refueling and recharging at Red Cliffs at KW while waiting for windholds on 6 and 10 to end. The wind has redistributed the 18-20 inches and it can be up to 3 and a half feet in sheltered areas or as little as 1 foot inm open wind hammered places. Face shots to be had if you know where to look.
hit the heave today thinking i would take advantage of my new location. arrived at 9 and walked right on the tram. sky had closed back up so i walked from canyon and and heard the screams of mott opening as i was heading through milky way trees. couple untracked laps there then to firebreak (which was hammered). Rode up the gondola thinking i was going home, but killebrew popped so back fro one more there. made up for wednesday's shitshow there and then some.
i really liked skier666's use of POV screenshots within his latest foto tr's. here's one from today in the thumb (at least that's what i alawys called it).

A very deep day. Sadly, Roundhouse was the top of Alpine. Hope springs eternal for tomorrow....
Ran into kona, made some turns with Rune. Gunner's Knob held the best lines I found today, although the Sympathy area was pretty sweet too.

glad u got some redemption pd. we were up there as well after echo laps by 11 so we missed the mott opening but hit kbrew for a couple then dropped deeep to the valley floor. i was able to "ski" almost all the way out the road but my buddy who has nice skiis walked it. he got to see why my skiis are so fucking slow on the flats. ran into a heavenry mngmnt guy who said we are supposed to get another 18-25" through sunday. hopefully it drops cold and low.
Sugar Bowl was awesome today, there's soooooo much snow! Yelled at Daron Rhalves, and he waved back at me, too bad I couldn't catch up to him.
It sounds like everyone was at the resorts today, but FYI: the wind was howling all day, and reached down to what I thought were wind-proof treed areas. Our skintrack (knee-deep) was totally filled in (like hard-to-find-filled-in) after 45 minutes. Several steep rolls broke and slid fairly quickly and could have knocked down the unaware. Be careful touring out there tomorrow.
ride bikes, climb, ski, travel, cook, work to fund former, repeat.
I dont understand why people complain about waiting in line on kt on a lower mtn storm day. Perhaps you would rather be at alpine skiing roundhouse or at kirkwood on chair 5??
Anyhow KT was epic today, i rode bell to bell and got pretty much fresh tracks on everyrun, and averaged waay more than a run an hour. The windloading/buffing in rockgarden/dead tree/ah cutes was insane!
Same here, and yes, rock garden was as good as I've ever skied it. Every lap. Even the one at 4:10.
If they had gotten the upper mountain open the crowd wouldn't have been bad at all. Sadly I'm not convinced that they'll manage tomorrow either (not judging patrol, I know they will try, but wind...). Not going to stop me from braving the KT line again though.
Having done the lapping 5 thing today...I would rather have been anywhere else. Even Heavenly. I drove up with a friend from the bay area at 4:30am and we hit the spur around 8:30am, in time for a slide to close the road and us to miss any chance of fresh tracks. Finally got on the slopes at 11:30 to find everything tracked out and most terrain closed. Very disappointed with today, which is too bad considering the snow itself was so good. I hope tomorrow makes up for today...
Weird, I did ah chute 1st run and it was icy top to bottom (good pow below it)...dead tree was good though
Wednesday I got ah chute fresh in maybe the best conditions possible. 3rd run of the day and it had no tracks, perfect wind buffed powder with very manageable sluff, and epic pow below. Yay midweek!
(Today wasn't even as close to being as good as Wed or Thursday as far as snow conditions, but I'm also bitter about crowds)
I'm also gonna preemtively bitch about Alpine being the gayest storm mountain ever since I'm going there tomorrow with a friend...probably to ride roundhouse. Do they pay their patrollers? I hope squaw patrollers get paid 2x as much. I actually love the fact Alpine sucks on storm days since I have both passes. I get the best of both resorts that way. Can't ever fathom only having an Alpine pass. That's just silly.
Still waiting...
Agreed that thursday was better, but the consistency of quality snow on all aspects today was better due to the lack of sun. I am also one of those strange folks who thinks windy heavy storm days are better than bluebird, especially in Tahoe in the spring time. I also dont doubt that ah was icy first thing, but by 3 when i got in there the wind picked up and buffed it out real nice, especially the little left slanted narrow slot below the drop in.
I was also stuck. But I started skiing at 1045 at the latest.
I found waist deep stuff. Why weren't you riding 6? They opened up sentinal later on in the day it was pretty rad even sent a few small cliffs. Sorry it wasn't untracked and the line on 6 kinda blew but deal with it. You're skiing.
We'll see what tomorrow brings.
