Ahhh, to be young and not care about flat landings anymore...

Good work on triple rock. I will not hit it anymore because anything flat to me just makes my knees and lower back hurt just thinking about it.
You should have been here yesterday!

Beautiful day up there today, but I was expecting more soft stuff. Also heard a couple of slides when we were around teacup. No idea what went off. Stay safe out there.

I know exactly what you're referring to. At first I thought they may have been cornices breaking off. Then, the geologist buddy that I was with said he thought it was some operations at Henderson the mine. PowTron, care to chime in?
    When in doubt...straighten 'em out.

Hard to explain. We heard the sound of something big to the Southwest. It wasn't whoomphing or blasting, though. I looked around on my way back up the pass but couldn't see anything, so I dunno. If it was from Henderson I'd be curious to know what the hell it was.

yeah it was a beautiful day today. found some good snow to skiers left of hanging meadow in the trees, and the lift gully was pretty good today as well. hit the 110s at the end of the day, was definitely not the place to be today.

I just figured it was the echo of some avy blasting of the cirque at WP, but I could be wrong. Heard it as we skinned past teacup little before noon.

Lots of sun up there yesterday and today.

Saw this observation on the CAIC site this morning... you guys think you might have heard the echo of this slide?

Also: went for my first BC tour yesterday in Current Creek. All low-angle stuff at or below treeline. I'm not a strong skier (yet) and am just starting to get into the BC. Had a lot of fun, stayed as safe as possible, had a great day out there, looking forward to doing it again! I'm not sure, but I think we skied a lap that took us down just skiers right from the 110's.

EDIT: Actually, looking again I think we were closer to Tea Cup.
The older I get, the faster I was.

Looks like that slide happened on the 18th. This would have been on Saturday (2/19), and it definitely came from West of 40, just really hard to tell where.

Welcome to the backcountry...I'm sorry about all your time and money ;-)

Gotcha, I saw the post dates of the 19th above and thought they were referring to the day before. Read 'em again, clearly referencing the 19th.

Thanks! And FWIW, I'm not sorry at all about said time and/or money. "Are you Pissed or Pumped?" a friend used to say... pumped! I'll still spend more days inbounds this season, like I said I'm not a strong skier (yet) - in fact just learning this season. Anything a little steeper (unless it's groomed) is still a bit over my ability.

Did a dusk/evening tour last night. First up was High Trail Trees at sunset. Snow was pretty good considering, best run of the day. Next was Lift Gully, then in full darkness we skinned up and just bombed Great Divide as a group with headlamps. Total blast how an otherwise afterthought run elicits hoots and hollers because you're doing it under a clear starlit sky, there's only headlamps, and NO ONE else is on the pass. Love it!

Did a few laps in Floral Park on Sunday morning, found some really nice snow above and at treeline, with dust on crust pockets in the trees and lots of sloughing below treeline.
Skied the meadows skier's left of the Roll with similar variability- deep pockets of snow and occasional dust on crust.

    Look Out Above

Played in the trees in Current Creek last Sunday. Deep and soft on non-solar wind-protected aspects. Took a lap on Moonlight Bowl and about 2/3rds of the way up a tele dude and a rider passed us on their way down. Said they hiked Russell from the pass and tried to drop down that nose between CC Bench and CC Bowls with nearly zero vis due to high winds and blowing snow. Said they couldn't see, went too far north, rider cratered and kicked off a "small slide, like a foot". Glad we were on the climber's left side of the krummholz rib. Figured there was a small chance of some asshat dropping XYZ but never dreamed they'd drop off Russell. Moral for me is, if you can't see it, assume some sui-skier is trying to knock it off onto you.

sick dane! that looks like a decent huck! when was that taken?

was up there today, as someone said above floral was dust on crust with a few good pockets. Current creek was a bit crusty along with the plunge area. HHA was absolutely $$$$, though. hanging meadow and north chute were fresh and untracked.

This was taken i guess it was this past sunday.... Didnt hit the triple rock but its all so filled in now that with a little snow i think it would be good to go. I really like the drop from the sequence above... pretty nice take off and sort of a landing if you dont send it too far but yea...everything gets flat quick there.

I only took a run off Meadows to 90's before my board snapped. Nice, soft turns up there. lots of windloading going on too. Didn't really get to go beyond those N. shots due to my gear issues.

We dug a pit - Khakis will have a picture or two of the snow pack.

32 Degree slope - South Facing
Isolated column - cut down the back with a snow saw

No movement on the 5 whacks from the hand, or elbow.

First whack from the shoulder we got a sheer about 2 1/2 feet deep. Pencil hard layer down maybe 6" (will need to look at the pix again) - but then down another 2' + there's another finger hard layer... just absolute kitty litter above and below.

3 columns all showed similar results.

I would imagine this coming storm - dropping a foot on that pencil hard layer is going to create a real trouble spot.

I think this is what you call bad:

    to worse:
