Also, didn't know if it was kosher to ask/ make a thread to borrow skis for one day use (in exchange for a 6 pack of choice or something like that)
Just bought some bridge's off this site, but not going to be to me for another week or 10 days, and was going to hit up Moonlight's ski for free day this fri 17th if you donate a frozen turkey to the food bank...don't have any skis now/ and my friend's that i can borrow are also gonna be in use/ and would like to avoid paying $30 to rent some shitty skis.
Obviously wouldnt be asking to borrow anyone's prime/new/favorite skis, just something decent that would get me around the mtn.
Just trying to see if this is a kosher thing to make a thread out of... or if not recommended.
Guess I shouldv posted here first.. Ive been around TGR for a while but never really posted cause figured Id get shut down (Vail isnt a haven for challenging terrain). But anyways, anyone on here live in eagle county and want to hit up the vail backcountry this winter send me a message.. Know the terrain well, expert skier, avy gear
I am a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, and I am studying Industrial Design. I am 19 and I have been skiing my whole life in VT. I tried telemark skiing last year and I found this site from shopping for a set up.
The one thing I know I want to do in life is to keep on skiing. Maybe even begin to design my own equipment.
Hi kids, I'm new here. I've browsed the forums on and off for a few years, but finally decided to join. I'm from the North Carolina mountains, home of that deep, light, fluffy powder that everyone dreams about.
Letting freedom ring from the mighty Alleghenies to the Colorado Rockies!

First, a hardy Go Bucks to the fella up the page... CO Buckeye. And no, I don't give a shit what any of you think about Ohio.
I'm a long time reader and put a few posts up so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm 33 and ready to chuck any thought of responsible work for a life of powder lines. I've been living in Colorado for 3 years, grew up skiing in PA before working a portion of my life away in Ohio. My hometown mountain was Blue Knob, which is definitely awesomer than you think. I was fortunate to have family in Steamboat, so I had a taste of the west when I was young.
The plan for the next 2 months is to fully incorporate myself into the backcountry ski scene in central Colorado. I've been preparing for this immersion for a few years by first losing my east coast gut and then getting into pretty good ski shape. I am considering where to rent cheap and am open to suggestions. I have an Epic Pass, so I'll still hit powder days on the mountains, but I need to gtfo of the resorts. I swear to you, my head is going to explode the next time I ride those god damned buses at Vail.
I am set to take an avy 1 class at the end of January. I'll be geared up and ready to be in the backcountry consistently February 1. Bottom line, the reason for this rant is I need a few friends. It's not that I'm not a pleasant person to be around, it's that people I know have actual jobs and can't spend their lives chasing pow. But I can. And I'd like to meet a few people in Central Colorado that can also. I'd prefer meeting people that know what the fuck they are doing, as I don't. But hey, beggars can't be choosers... so if you are in Central Colorado and you're looking for a ski partner, hit me up. If you have any advice or a cheap place or whatever, drop me a line.
Peace, love, happiness and powder turns all.
And, for the record, I do pretty well on my boards.
New to the forum. Love what you guys have going on. Been toying with the idea for a few years to move into the mountains. Closest I came was Sacramento and heading to Tahoe regularly. Then there's been the other side of the world where people hate each other but have awesome mountains and for some reason I can't get my bosses to greenlight my skiing idea there...
So I'm the dude, 30 years old, lost my wife to cancer last year, moved to DC to get out of Calistan and am now planning on changing my career trajectory somewhat radically to pursue my own dreams. The idea's to move to either MT, CO or BC and ski my ass off. The rest of the time I'll still be helping people who don't want to be helped to do their job without getting reduced to hamburger meat.
The threads I've read have me even more pumped than I thought possible and I've found someone who's all about riding so life might be making a worthwhile comeback.
Thanks for having me here. Look forward to picking the collective brains and learning about the community.
Apparently I effed up my first post by buying a pair of binders off the gear swap. Uh, whatever. Jong, gaper, fushnitzel, blah blah blah.
ShadNet (1993, bitchez), Friendster, CascadeClimbers, UW Climbing Club, MandolinCafe, TelemarkTips, Canadian Guitar forum, etc. frickin thousands of posts about some shit or other out there, so I'm a newbie, but you know, I get around.
Hi everyone. I like to ski, for about 28 years now. Nordic, tele, fixed heel, yez.
I don't know what this guy is doing but he looks righteous.
Private JONG reporting for duty. Lurked in the shadows and was freshly accosted after my first thread post in tech talk, further reinforcing why this forum is dope as hell. Ready to mix it up with all you know-it-all pricks and spread some stoke. JONG out
Love the personalities on here... yeahhh
I'm reporting for newbie duty. 39 yr old fixed heel skier/rider, location all over the NW and soon to be E' coast. Looking forward to reading/watching TR's from my soon to be new neighbors.
21, from Pittsburgh, was a hardbooter for years and decided I wanted to push myself in a different direction (so here I am on skis and loving every minute of it).
Noob checking in, I'm Pico, 53, who can no longer dice it up with the 20 somethings Found that out at Snowbowl last March, at 12,000 feet my muscle scream for 02, thats what you get for living at 800 feet of elevation and 10 knee surgeries have taken there toll Life is good tho, recently bought a place in Star Valley Ranch, WY (one hour south of Jackson) and will ski the Hole and the Ghee as often as possible.
Lurking for the past couple years, decided it was time to join after these past couple weeks of spending way more time on here than on skis waiting for the January thaw to end!
Started skiing on the east coast (VA), moved to the NW 3 years ago and will never go back. Been skiing for almost twenty years now and have slowly been progressing into the backcountry areas around Mt. Baker over the past year.
Not looking to cunt up the threads with useless drivel, mainly here for the entertainment and to meet some new people (preferably more experienced) to do some touring with, along with contributing a little stoke from time to time.
I'm a little late, but thought I would introduce myself anyway. I live on the west coast in Vancouver, BC. I skiied for the first time when I was 13 and went 4 times with our grade 7 class. I enjoyed the skiing immensely, but I played a high level of competative soccer, so did not have time (or the $) to pursue skiing any further. In grade 11 I went night skiing a couple times with a buddy, but once again didn't pursue it any further - despite enjoying it again. Then, 4 years ago, while attending UBC, I purchased the a season's pass to Whistler (the 4x4 makes it stupid not to go) and I've been an addict ever since. I currently ski Baker or Whistler at least once every weekend, twice if I can find the $ and time. I work as an engineer on the new Port Mann Bridge, so time is tough to find.
On to my stats and what I ski: I'm 6', 170ish lbs, and would consider myself an "advanced" skier, but am by no means an expert. I ski 183 Gotamas with M14 bindings and just purchased a pair of 184 B-squads with Freeride Pluses. I'm looking to start touring at Baker and am attending their Avi training in the coming month.
Anywhooo, if you read all that, good for you, but you should probably be working - as should I.
