Tucks should have a monument to commemorate it's place in history, (ie: Toni Matt, Dick Durrance, Hannes Schneider, Inferno, etc.) a full size bronze or larger than life. Along that line of thinking, here's an opportunity to commemorate another great moment in Tuck's, and maggot's, history. A full or larger than life size bronze commemorating what is soon to be accomplished...the human powered schlepping of a 1/2 keg of beer, a work similar to the raising of the flag at Iowa Jima....capturing the moment t the keg decides to slide backwards with the rush of three or more maggots scrambling over the top each other to secure keg while harnessed one grimaces and strains, neck muscles bulging, a look that says "oh fuck, I'm dying here"
Or perhaps a solo bronze subject strapped to the bronze keg, leaning, straining, struggling into the hill. I want lots of pictures from all angles.

I fully support the keg schlepping and will lighten the load..at the top.
    and remember.. LOTS OF PICS

We're at 12 but I figure with over a month to go that will dwindle to 7-9. PM me the location of Chez VG so I can work up some kind of overnight accommodations, if you don't mind. We will probably do Tucks on Sat, then hit somewhere lift serviced for Sun (Wildcat still open then?).
I should probably change my username to IReallyDon'tTeleMuchAnymoreDave.

I've stayed there before in the summer and it's pretty nice but winter never really appealed to me. It's gated to the public during winter right at 302 so you basically have to walk the access road to the trail head. and then you've got a real short hike up to the hut. There are some decent routes you could plan up there for a winter hike but given where it is in relation to washington and the problem of access in the winter, it probably wouldn't be ideal if you were planning on doing Tucks the same day.

As much as I would appreciate a keg of beer in the bowl, that is a tremendous over exertion. The keg itself adds a ridiculous amount of weight...you're better off hiking in a big bladder or even cans...much lighter. Good luck either way.

I'm probably interested in doing this. People camping or staying at HoJo's or in shelters? Never done it before and attempting to read the thread set my ADD into high gear. Can anyone summarize?
It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

Cool, thanks for the info. It does seem like a really nice place to stay though generally speaking. Will have to plan on that sometime!

I can definitely see this...especially the grimace/straining/neck-bulging "Oh fuck, I'm dying here" look.

If I win the powerball before then, I'm commissioning this sculpture fer sure! Or maybe Friends of Tuckerman's Ravine is interested in supporting this testament to suffering for the sake of a nice, cold one after a hike?

i think of it not as suffering, but training to suffer.

    and everyone benefits from beer!

besides, the photographs alone will be worth it. i have the perfect t-shirt for the job.

Be patient PJ09, over a month to work out the details.
Props to Valleygirl for instigating this. Great chance to hang out with some uber cool maggots, get piss drunk and pass out under the stars.

I elect that we ERECT a snow sculpture to commemorate the event. My buddy Monoski Mike from the innitous ski club is wicked artistic, esp when he's hammered and could mastermind a giant snow maggot

I'll see if I can find pics of the "snow slut" he made last year. DaveTV ????

I've never met any of the EC maggots so I'd be down for this craziness....and I never turn down an opportunity to make turns at one of my favorite places with new people.

Props to whomever decides to join Steve on his keg conquest....I've never had the balls to carry much more than a few tall cans of beer, I must say the idea is great!

I gave a relatively detailed explanation of the scenario back a page or two

not to be too serious about the keg party in the bowl...but, for those who haven't been up there before...

it's fairly steep. above the center headwall (between the ice fall and the chute) can be no fall zones. once you get to this area the surface conditions can change drastically from what you just hiked in the bowl and headwall...this is not a place to fuck around...it's much more fun to ski down the sherbie then be on your back in a sled. therefore, id suggest skiing first then drinking. unless you plan on bowl runs...which would be a complete waste of time imo.

the weather in early april can be just as bad as in the middle of january, so be prepared. the worst thing that can happen is rain/sleet and then high winds with dropping temps...not fun.

also, the avi potential is also something to be aware of...amongst the falling ice.

that's all...sorry...carry on and drink up!

but if i'm not hammered, will I be able to point it off the center cliff into a huge lawn dart? Scary part is as follows........i'm only half kidding.
Three fundamentals of every extreme skier, total disregard for personal saftey, amphetamines, and lots and lots of malt liquor......-jack handy

55 degrees...i don't think its that steep. maybe for a very short section...one or two turns.

afraid...yes, twice out of about 75 runs up there. once solo above the chute when it was solid ice. i had traversed over into it not knowing...stupid move. second time was when a vw size ice block fell about 15' from me and a couple other guys. that scared the shit out of us! that would have been instant death.
