You know that's not the real DW, right, Brett?
You know that's not the real DW, right, Brett?
Because its completely pointless to run the lights during the day. If you can't see a car without its lights on and it is light out, get off the fucking road.
All the other things you listed have at least some purpose to them. Having the windows down is nice. Having the mirrors out is nice. Listening to music is nice. Running the lights when its light out has zero benefit.
I don't think DRLs are pointless, but then again they were standard in every car by the time I started driving so I'm used to the idea.
But speaking of things that are pointless, what about the thousands of dusk-to-dawn lights every city and second farm has? Those cost the average person way more than the DRLs on their cars ever will, and for what? Safety?
Funny but while googling subaru drl disable just now I found this thread on the LegacyGT forum. Its been going strong for over 3 years! Rootskier may have have opened a can of worms bigger than all of us.
22 pages of how to disconnect your Subarus DRLs.......

Sore loser.
You're the loser. You conceded. (As witnessed by others starting threads in the main forum making fun of your dumb ass)
Nice "can of worms" thread there genius.
The fact that your still stalking my posts tells me you're still upset. I'd think by now you'd be used to being wrong.
Get over it.
Glad you enjoyed it, I know I did.
I had fun pinning you down and proving without a shadow of a doubt that you don't know shit about cars, even though as you say you were once a "certified car stereo installer".
What a tool.
I'm out. How long will you be stalking me?
Pinning me down? You're delusional. Read the title of this thread.
...one GOOD REASON why all cars aren't mandated....
I'm still waiting for you or dweeb boy powow to give me the gas mileage loss on my truck for using DRLs. (That's where you and he conceded the debate)
That's why I called you retarded, and thanks for proving it.
Acting like you "won" makes you even more retarded, but YOU GO GIRL!!!
As far as "certified car installer", that's something I got in High School, being that I was into car stereos. Maybe you don't know, but high performance car stereos get alternators swapped out for bigger and better ones, making that relevant to this argument.
Can I run to the Drugstore to get you ladies some Maxipads?
Jesusfuckingchrist.
I worked here: http://www.balmar.net/
for many years.
I have personally built regulators, rebuilt and tested alternators and complete charging systems. I have also spent years working as a civilian contractor on the Coast Guards rescue boats, specializing in the charging systems.
Blurred, you are wrong. Your sig makes you look really ignorant.
I don't give a fuck about global warming and the implications of how much fuel drls are using, but you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the principles of dc charging systems.
Pull uglymonkeys cock out of your mouth and explain "how I'm wrong", moron.
PS-making up shit credentials makes you UBER-retarded. (love how your alternator MARINE cred card got pulled this late in the game, dumbass)
Go ahead. I need some more shit for my sig, fluffer.
I figured you would back up your ignorance with shit talking and flaming. Oh well. I didn't pull out my credentials, because I don't really give a shit. I did, however post a pretty clear accurate description of how charging systems work, and you chose to ignore it.
Here is how you are wrong. Using electricity in your vehicle uses gas. FACT. Not disputable. Not arguable.
If you use power from your battery, that power must be replenished by the alternator. The alternator uses a magnetic coil to create this power (electricity). The alternator in turn creates a load on the engine. Unless you are going downhill your engine uses fuel to compensate for this load.
Get it?
I'd have to think that if any "modern" vehicle (one equipped with an ECM system) is having undo "drag" or load induced onto the motor by having the headlights on would highlight some serious issues with the vehicle that are outside of the load required to drive a pair of incandescent bulbs.
No, I don't install car stereos nor do I manufacture alternators. That said, I do have a very colorful history with electricity and know enough to make the statement above.
Directly from the Balmar FAQs page. http://www.balmar.net/Page46-faq.htmlTypically, when an alternator is working at full output, it will require approximately one horsepower for every 25 amps it produces. As such, a 100-amp high-output alternator will demand up to four horsepower to operate.
Blurred, I guarantee you that the supplier of Military alternators knows more about this subject than you do.
Dumbass!
In case you are wondering traditional headlights draw about 8 amps. So 1/3 of a hp goes to your headlights.
Just to clarify, I think the original conversation concerned daytime running lamps which draw significantly less that actual headlamps on a vehicle. By my numbers, I would say the overall load is about 1/4 (25%as as that of a standard headlamp (HID types excluded).

YOU! STOP BEING FUCKING SOBER!

Sorry, I'm actually not, FWIW.
Edit:
Even better, I'm killing time fostering this thread while waiting for the epoxy on my goggles to dry. On of my "mutts" decided to turn them into a chew-toy and render the strap-loop on the googles useless. If all works well, I'll be carving some nice turns tomorrow.
