    Gimme one good reason why...

I shouldn't sell the Heckler frame and swap the parts to an Evil Sovereign?

I rode a Chameleon for over 2 years as a do-it-all jump/trail bike and loved it. I got this idea that I wanted a fs version of the Chameleon (ie Blur 4X) to soften things up a bit, but what I've ended up with is a 30+lb light freeride bike. I don't do that much XC riding, and what I do the hardtail would be fine for, not to mention it'd beat the hell out of the Heckler on DJs. I'm no DJ master, but with 4 good spots within relatively close distance of here, the Heckler has seen as much DJ action as anything.

I do love the Heckler, but a stable of 2 is my limit. I've considered building an uber-cheap DJ hardtail, but I really want something more versatile...and I can't really afford it. I've got the Highline for DV, Bountiful, Moab, The Crest, etc., and while it's not ideal for some of those applications, it does the job just fine. Also, with some adjustments in the future (8.5x2.5 rear shock and a 66 or 66Light) it would be much more versatile, though a bit less capable in the DH department.

OR, the easiest solution, and probably the cheapest, would be to get a frontal labotamy crippling the part of my brain that keeps me up at night thinking about these things.

Sorry, I don't have a single reason to keep it. I say do the hardtail route.

And welcome back. Hope the trip went well.

If you can get free tonight, I'll be up at Tanner.

Do it. ( I am an enabler after all )

I've only seen you ride XC once, and that was on your Chameleon when you first moved to UT. Only reason to own a heckler is for nice long XC rides where you want the freeridey squish on the way down. If all you're doing is shuttling, DH, and DJ with a few shoreline-style trail rides thrown in, I say go for it.

I essentially have the setup you're proposing and it works out great - big bike w/ small chainring for Empire, DV, Moab + fun burly hardtail for DJ's and light XC duty.

Thanks, trip was great. I've gotta go by the AGs and stump's house to pick up our leftover wedding booze before it's all gone, but I might be able to get down to Tanner later in the evening. I'll give you a call.

Kidwoo, didn't you own a Sovereign before you got the D.O.C., or did you just swap sizes?

stump, you'll be the first to know (before Meg even, cause I'm afraid to tell her)

I need to take a pic of the finished Surly. Friggin gorgeous. With a big cushy tire out back it eats sub 4inch trailbikes for breakfast. I think it may put you over the top...

In other words. do it. now.

How much of the parts mix will transfer? You'd have to consider how much it's cost in reality if you have to get new post, BB, f der., etc...

And of course, welcome back man! Let's get after it this coming week.

No. I am not going to listen to him whine about not having a Sovereign for another year, like we all listened to him whine about not having a Turner for the last two If he's getting a hardtail, he's getting a Sovereign. End of story. </dad>

Yeah I just switched sizes. A buddy of mine has been on a sovereign for over a year now and I've ridden his bike a fair bit. It's REALLY close to the doc but just hair bit steeper at the headtube.

Just dirtjumps and skatepark riding though. I've never done any xc riding on it.

You mean I wasn't supposed to drink all of that?

Here's one good reason TO buy it:

You can ride it for a year, get tired of it or move on to something 'better', and then sell it to me for much less.

I've been lusting after one of those for a while now, just can't justify it at the moment.

    HA!

2 bike stable, who can live with that. "I mean sometimes you wear stretchy pants just for fun" (Nacho) I am pretty sure that is where the problem is, 2 bikes... Um but a reason to not sell the Heckler. Let's see, I am pretty sure after your last trip to Moab, you were bitching about the Highline not the bike for there. Another, maybe the parts wont all swap as Particle said. Another, you will never be happy with what you got, you will always want something new. The latest lusted over bike parts, the pimpest frames, and then the prototypes showing you what is to come. You know what you want, so go with it. All I can say is "Addict."

Yeah Bag, 2 bikes doesn’t have to be the max. If I didn’t have a messed back I’d love a dirt jumper, they can be super cheap so you don’t have to worry about replacement as you toss it off to the side or into the rocks.

My ideal stable would have an ultra-light XC full suspension , a 6x6 trailbike, a beater dirt jump bike, a DH/freeride bike, and a pimp road bike. Of course that’s a lot of maintenance to do.

I say, buy what makes you happy, but personally I’d miss not having a trailbike lighter than the highline for non-shuttleable rides.

I've fully considered the cheap DJ option, my problem is I really liked doing trail rides on the hardtail too...plus, I've never been very comfortable on little DJ bikes.

Not to mention, I'm a major brand whore.

I'm still mulling it over, and hoping I can find one used or on sale.

I could probably get you a Warlock frame, cheap (not mine).

We'd look so cute with the same bike.
