mets are killing the yanks, can anyone say eleven games?

This just in- with that single, Endy Chavez is now officially more like Wattie Holm than he is like Peanuts Lowrey. I love real-time scoring.
Awesome game.
To Johnny Damon, thank you for pulling a Canseco.
To Endy Chavez, 4-for-5 just won't cut it. Damon and Abreu with their sub-260 averages and horrible defensive abilities are far better than your singles, stolen bases, and amazing fielding.
To Boston, thanks for making the superfecta happen.

What'd Damon do?
Damon forgot how to play CF.
He gave David Wright a 2-run homerun in allowing the ball to bounce off his palm while in fair territory and land over the fence. He also gave Chavez a ground-rule double by misplaying an easily catchable ball.

Wasn't that ball going over anyways? It looks like it just popped out of his glove.
He wasn't brought to the Yankees for his defense, that's for sure- I hope he starts hitting.
I haven't seen a nightcap that bad since Peanuts Lowrey asked Maurice Van Robays to meet him at the speakeasy.

So this Yankees Red-Sox series could be pivotal.
Right now the pitching matchups favor the yankees, in my opinion.
Wakefield- Wang
Though Wak has been Pitching well, I'll still give the nod to Wang as generally being a better pitcher.
Tavarez - Mussina
obvious, though Tavarez has pitched well in a number of seemingly lopsided pitching match ups.
Schil- Pettite
Schil's been struggling a little as of late, last start was one of his worst yet.
Anyways, the yanks should do well in this series, if they don't, then I'd say it's curtains for the bombers.
I'm even more nervous than usual. It feels like there is a lot riding on this series. I hope that the Sox aren't feeling the same way.
edit: I'm sure some of this is residual nervousness stemming from the NBA draft lottery.

If the Sox sweep, I say that Torre is fired by Friday.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hh.... The ESPN article about Oden's sensational workout is really fucking with me right now.
i hope so, that is probably the only thing steinbrenner could do to make the team worse. does someone really think that any of the yankees problems are caused by torre or that there is someone out there who can pick up the job right now and do any better?
i think steinbrenner is probably planning on digging billy martin up and planting him on the end of the bench.

^^^ I totally agree... there's no one else out there that's going to get the players fired up any more than Torre doesn't already. Who's supposed to replace him, Mattingly? He's just as laid back as Torre.
And he's never managed before.
I don't think they fire him midseason. I mean, they're already 10 games back; if they start making a run then he's safe for the time being, and if they fall further behind then the season's over and there's no reason to push him out the door. And when you factor in the injuries they've gone through... I think Cashman should be way more worried (not sure what his contract status is).
yeah, i definitely think cashman bet his job on clemens making an impact this season.

I'm pretty sure Cashman just signed an extension.
I hope Mattingly gets the job, "The Curse of Donny Baseball" is strong.
everyone says the reason wake keeps losing is because of no run support. i think i figured that one out, it's all mirabelli's fault. dougy turns the sox into a national league team with an automatic out every time through the order.

Drew is terrible. Even when he was producing, it was all junk. He's only come up big once that I can remember (and I can't even remember when it was, just that it happened- which means it wasn't in a critical game). He sucks, until proven otherwise.
That being said, I think the play of the game was the bad call on what ended up being strike two to Youkilis in the third. He draws that walk, it's 2-1, bases loaded, a struggling Wang, and Ortiz at the plate- potentially a huge swing. Even without a big hit from Ortiz, there's a blunting of momentum there. Might not have mattered, given Wake's lack of command, but still... There were some other bad calls at the plate during the game, going both ways, but that was significant. Oh well, that's why they play 162.
