(This is a serious thread about a serious subject, so please show it the respect it deserves)
The Virginia Tech shooting made me wonder.....how could somebody go around a building and shoot 30+ people without someone stopping him? Did people try to stop him, but were shot? Haven't heard any news reports of that, but I haven't been following it that closely....so please let us know if there was. No disrespect to the victims, it was an incredibly difficult situation to be in, of course.
If put in a situation like that, I probably wouldn't have been able to do anything either, or have known what to do.....a very tough situation. In my daily life, I'm not in particular danger from crime (muggings, etc), nor a likely target, and I don't go around fighting people or shooting guns. Haven't been in a fight since high school, or shot a gun in over 10 years (only once). So, basicly I have no clue.
These shootings are extremely rare, and I'm not suggesting anyone be afraid of them. However, there is a chance that one day you will be put in a situation of mortal danger.....being attacked by someone with an intent to kill with a deadly weapon. Personally, I would rather not go out cowering under a desk.
I know there are a wide range of people on this board with related personal defense experience - military types, maybe even some police, martial arts experts, people who get in street fights, boxers, etc, etc. How would you deal with type of situation.......really. How would you recommend the average guy deals with this? Real tips - how do you know if you are actually in mortal danger, what can be used in a weapon, how do you ambush someone in a building, how do you attack them, how do you deal with the intial shock of the situation, how do you disarm someone, and then how to use the gun, etc, etc......?
Thanks.
