Sounds interesting. I used to run and swim constantly but I stopped in the fall and switched to massive beer and pizza consumption.
6ft3 184lbs right now. Not a problem of a ton of extra weight but I have the disproportionate body: skinny with a beer tub.
Swimming starts tomorrow again (oh boy) and running prob 2mi a day-ish until I can start hiking. I think being a vegitarian may be a form of cheating but we shall see.

Count me in on this action.

I've always been fat and I was able to drop down to 215 at my lowest a couple of years ago, but I've since gained about 35 lbs. and I'm back up to 250. Goal is to be down to 210 by July 1.
I think that the human mind is unique among all other forms of life in that it can spontaneously create unique thoughts and provide unique behaviors. Instead of rewarding that uniqueness we, for some reason probably because of cultural and social necessity, we chastise unique behavior and reward conformity.

Three weeks ago I weighed 232 at 5'6". Felt like shit about it, couldn't see my toes, had a hard time putting socks on, great big fun. My feet and ankles were swollen up enough that my ski boots didn't fit right any more. I quit eating wheat products and this morning I was at 222. This has worked for me before, I think I have an allergy or sensitivity to wheat gluten. The swelling is gone and my boots feel good again. I lose it in the gut and face first and can really see and feel the difference.
The hardest part is to get started, once you do and see the results the motivation builds.
    Good luck everyone.

Alright, I'm in. Working out should be a good way to help me deal with my stress right now. I need to drop some body fat anyway. I will need to pick up a new scale since mine doesn't seem to work to well, and gives different readings if you step off and then back on again

Any Utah maggots have a gold's gym membership? I could use some workout partners to keep me with the program. Also, I think it should be a 3mo time frame. June is when it starts to get hot around here.

    Edit:
Goal: 32" waist again. Not going to put up a Lbs or bodyfat goal since I have no clue what it will take to get there.
    Current: 36" waist.

    I'm interested.

5'10 and 193 lbs as of this morning.

Ever since I hit 30, the weight keeps creeping up. I play Ultimate 2 days a week, and go to tournaments(like the one I was at this weekend) at least once every 3-4 months. I can run all day at the tourneys, but I am dead for the following week. I just want to be able to recover faster, and not feel so old. We play kids that are 18-25 usually, so it is tough, but it feels good when you school an 18 year old.

The time change will get me on the bike in the afternoon, and I need to hit the gym in the morning(my biggest problem area- no motivation in the a.m.). If I don't hit the gym in the morning, it will never happen. I hate going in the afternoon.

    Good luck everybody.

alright my fat ass is in. 26yo 6'2" 250.5lbs my problem is boredom eating. i think the workouts will be largely based around the comish's suggestion of reviving my surfing career. this will also hopefully help get me out of the really bad relationship i'm in at the moment. Game on!!

"this will also hopefully help get me out of the really bad relationship i'm in at the moment." Is this relationship w/ bacon and beer or some chick you are afraid to leave while you're fat because you won;t be able to get another?

BTW- what'swhere's an easy/cheap way/place to get your body fat masured? In NYC, for example.

And how many calories do you burn pushing a baby jogger with a, shall we say, healthy, 2.5 years old in it?

big ups (downs) to all you losers!

a quick thought for the portion control people: an appetizer 10 or 15 mins before a meal is a great way to cut the edge off your hunger.

    un-fatness, here I come!

forgot to weigh in this morning, but I will do it later and update ye olde spreadsheet.

Hopefully losing about 10 lbs will make me slightly faster than the slowest skinner in the world.

Probably the cheapest long term solution is to buy a scale that measures bodyfat. They aren't as accurate as the water displacement method, but in the long run they are way cheaper.

    Tanita makes one for ~$80.

ok everyone, I think I've added everyone who's sent me an email address. If you've not gotten an email titled, "TGR Weight loss challenge (Google Docs & Spreadsheets)", please forgive me and resend your email.

a few people have asked where to send the money. let's just send it directly to the winner at the end of the contest.

If you're not playing for money, be sure to say "TRUE" in the casual column. Otherwise, put "FALSE."

    ----
on a personal note, my own blog (http://tursi.com/steve) has turned into a weight-loss blog, too. so you can keep track of my fierce competition if you like. it's a livejournal blog, so you can see the same stuff at http://stevetursi.livejournal.com, if you prefer.

    Go by percentage.

Impeccable timing. I'm down for a little accountability to help me lose some poundage.

I'd like to get down to around 160 and this morning I weighed in at 195. I'd be up for the $5 or $20, whatever it is.

    you speaka da truth!

142 was a hard number to swallow. Haven't seen that since my beer-swilling french-fry-chomping, Hooter's-wings-scarfin' party days sophomore year of college. ugh.

I think my coworker pal & I are going to snowshoe to Minaret Summit after work mañana. That should help sweat off some poundage. God bless DST.
