I need to move to Truckee or Reno or something. Being 4 hours away from good skiing is kind of a day-trip killer. If I was 30-45 minutes away, i would have a 30-45 day year.
Kirkwood was boring today....
AKA and I agreed on this issue.![]()
Couple of teaser pics from Kirkwood today:

You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.
Especially that last run at 4pm in far Palisades. I mean, I have come to expect some 'variable snow conditions' in far palisades at 4pm. Some wind affected snow, sun crust, mank I mean something to make it interesting. But, that untracked deep blower pow that went all the way from the High T to chair 7, was just plain BORING!!!!
I hated Kirkwood today, and I am never going back.![]()
Nice pics Rune. I think I got some keepers as well.![]()
The snow on Granite today may be the deepest snow I've ski'd in 11 years. There was a great similar storm cycle in late Feb 96 and I remember skiing waist deep down West Face. Now that was on an old pair of skinny skis so the comparison is kinda rough. Today was without a doubt the deepest snow my Spats have ever seen! Life is good! Damn I'm tired.

Wow, my first day at Squaw in 8 years and got to experience it going off!! Flew down to Reno this morning and made it to the hill by 10:00. Missed the fingers mayhem, but saw plenty of big drops, tripods, and neon green steezy get-ups.
Had some seriously deep turns in the trees far skiers right of Olympic Lady chair, off headwall, and on the run back to Squaw Creek. Unfortunately had to call it quits by 12:30 so I could review the latest TPS reports with my colleagues in the afternoon.
Will be back at it tomorrow for sloppy seconds in the afternoon. Look for the baby blue Bros and ask for change.

what he said: top 10, if not 5, all time days @ alpine. there was only a few inches in the driveway overnight when i left this morning, and after yesterday, i wasn't expecting as good a day, just was hoping to get sherwood since it had been closed. you know the old saying "ou never know until you go" - well, um, yeah, when we boarded summit at 9am everything was filled in from the day before, and it was cold, real cold.
i was blown away with how deep and light the snow was today, d chutes, palasides, promised land was all time and beaver was the best i have ever skied it...words fail me, today was what it's all about.
Stoke!!!

Oh. My. God. I can barely move today, and it was so worth it. Yesterday was epic, hands down. Bell to Bell with a 10 minute break to eat something before we passed out from exhaustion. I've never hiked High T that many times, and the final run was the cherry on top of a Kirkwood powder sundae (or wednesday...)
Yup, rolled up in the powder express Tuesday night (it was nuking all the way down to Jackson)...we were hoping that staying in Kirkwood would save us in the morning, but the night snow fall wasn't as heavy as we had hoped...so roads were open....still....a little line for 6 in the morning, but by noon the resort was empty.![]()
