I'm going to AK in April to assure that Tahoe will get puked upon.

lack of snow is doing something to keep the crowds down - but seeing those clouds form and come in from the EAST, carrying no snow, is enough to really piss me off.

That said, the sun heated up the back side of Lincoln and Judah pretty nice Saturday morning, good old Juneuary corn (mini TR to come)

That was the silver lining this weekend. The only silver lining this weekend.

Note to self: When sporting 200cm GSes, if your friend points to how sweet the Saddle looks from ABC, listen to the little voice in your head. No, not that one -- the one telling you that they're too damned heavy to hike on, and anyway, Saddle must be closed or someone would've hiked out there already -- the other one, not the one who agrees with the friend. To aid in remembering these little tips, recall the sensation of skiing High Yellow Gully on 200s in what could charitably be called early-season conditions.

Weekend before last I skied Squaw and Rose backcountry.....but after the warm week I am done until more snow comes. It is a sad day.

On the other hand, conditions on Mt Rose were good on Sat (Jan 27th)..........for road biking.

That was EPIC!!!! Props to the road biking in the snow, isn't there a fair amount of sand on the roads though?

Not sure if you are talking shit or being serious.....but oh well. Yes, definately sandy as hell. But the shoulder was as large as it ever is on Rose (the Snow was melted all the way off the road). I have a cross bike that I dont really mind getting dirty......so I at least got some of my aggressions towards this winter out!!!

8900 Feet in Tahoe.....skiing or biking, take your pic.

    It just keeps getting better:

UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD INTO THE WESTERN CONUS BY
WEEK`S END. TEMPS WILL CONTINUE THEIR ASCENT INTO THE UPPER
FIFTIES/LOW SIXTIES...LOW FIFTIES FOR HIGHER ELEVATIONS. IT`S GOING
TO FEEL MORE LIKE SPRING THAN JANUARY! SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...WE WILL
SEE SOME MID AND UPPER MOISTURE SPILLING OVER THE RIDGE. THIS COULD
MODERATE OUR TEMPERATURES SOME...SO DECIDED TO STAY BELOW MEX
GUIDANCE FOR NOW. LEFT A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR PRECIP ON SATURDAY FOR
THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE CWA...ALTHOUGH MOST OF THE ACTION WILL
BE FAR TO THE NORTH...IN THE PAC NW. STILL VERY HARD TO SAY WHEN AND
IF THIS RIDGE WILL BREAK DOWN.

Ok, I will tell my dirty little secret. I rode from my house in Washoe Valley to the Top of Rose.....and my wife picked me up.

That way the gravel wasnt a factor on the way down....and I didnt freeze my ass off. We were going to Tahoe anyhow, so I just rode half way there.

I slayed teh icy at alpine on friday. looneymachen was about the only thing that was fun. It's been a while since I hit those speeds where you can feel the wind resistance start to make you light in the loafers.......lighter than normal I mean.

Did that asshole really have to throw the exclamation mark in there?

Huck, yeah, in those conditions I don't blame you for not descending...hell, the climb is a lot of the fun anyways when the descent is sketched.
