Any updates? Someone was telling me it has been raining in Austria the last couple of days.

*anti-jinx* big storm lining up late next week and it should blow in very cold *anti-jinx
I am flying into Innsbruck this coming Monday from Seattle and will be bringing the PNW's snow. Have faith.
#1 goal this year......stay alive +
DOWN SKIS

mtgoat, I'll be flying into Innsbruck on Thursday 18th and still hope you'll bring the snow from Seattle. Supposedly everyone from St. Anton, Lech, and Kitzbuehel is fleeing to Soelden and the other glaciers where the snow is still acceptable.
Weather oracle subtle, how's your confidence level for a weather change next week?
And I'm back - unharmed!
I think I also saw more new snowfall on the Anti-Lebanon than all season long (January 3rd excepted).
I guess, Palmyra was probably as dry as the Alps:

as is said here

we have a chance around the 20th. BUT we had this long term chance for the last 2 Months.
I'll be convinced on the 21st. not one day earlier![]()
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.
While it is unseasonably warm here, it is pissing down rain and I've got leave booked from the 20th. Come on you bastard, snow.
Snow is still nice up high
Starting to suck - 1 inch rain/wind crust on soft lower down
The view on the rattle home down the refrozen mer de Glace is nice though

sweeeeet pics, tom, thanks! what is the threshold of decent vs shitty snow in north faces in cham? Is 2500 reasonable or too optimistic?
Apparently, it is 60 deg. and raining outside Innsbruck. Anyway I'm living just outside Innsbruck for the next month so if anyone knows of anything going on let me know.
I went up with some other friends today (I guess I'm off Tom's Partner List these days) and we laid in a track on a secret Vallee Blanche powstash variation. Up at around 3500m we took great joy to draw in the first three lines on a cruisy 35 degree 300m long wide slope of untracked thick-but-good.
Quickly turning into freeze/thaw cycle stuff that was tolerable.
Excellent day, to sum it up. Great to be back up in the high mountains again...
Short answer: There's some stashes up high but it's mostly pretty desperate.
Also decent spring skiing on offer at Flegere/Brevent as I found out yesterday, but a little thin on the cover and melting fast.
Some "for the memories" shots from today:
Rocks on ice towards the train station is pretty disheartening for January but it seems all pretty safe as far as snow bridges.

Cheers for the pics bbirtle and idris. Will be going up there myself asap.
Did top bin of Grand montets, point de vue but all the way down to argentiere glacier. The shitty snow starts very high, probs around 2800. Was up brevent yesterday, very slushy'n'heavy but fun

Nice Chamonix photos, hope the snow starts picking up. 5 weeks till I get to enjoy it again.
