My buddy just purchased this camera, we are wondering if you can see the image you are shooting on the lcd screen or do you always have to look through the viewfinder? Thanks.

I'm going to take your question at face value...
Viewfinder only. The rebel operates exactly as a film SLR does, only it has a CMOS sensor behind the shutter instead of film. The lcd is for reviewing your shoot after it is taken.
