Riding Giants - are you paying attention TGR?

TNF makes great gear, but it's also sold in Macy's, Dicks Sproting Goods, etc. They have a huge marketing engine, and like SUV's people that don't need them, (ie never venture off the highway) but them. Personally I buy whatever I can get a good proform on, but the average joe that skis once a year over Christmas is going to buy the most recognizable name or what ever the highschooler working the counter at Dicks says they should buy.

TNF used to make all good gear. Now, their highest-end stuff still has good design/good durability, but their whole mid-range gets really compromised in terms of design.

Some other companies have managed to keep pretty good design throughout their range, even at the more 'value' price-points.

Well, I got a line on some gorilla costumes. Was thinking it would be cool to get some hot babes in bikinis for the opening or closing credits. Maybe have them wearing nothing but jib towels around their girly parts. I'm thinking we could possibly get the Icy Hot Stuntaz to lay down some tracks for the soundtrack......

Just saw some footage that will be included in the upcoming theatrical documentary about "big mountain skiing". Let me say it involves an avy, a big avy. And it's nothing like you've seen before in any ski flick. Complete with mics on the skiers as they get wacked. Scary footy.

Yes, slippy shot amazing footy of huge avies, but this is different. You'll just have to see it. I'm not a ski flick guru, but it's pretty chilling to say the least. 5 more feet in the wrong direction and everyone would have been dead.

i see the waiting game as the film your'e looking for minus the mountaineering...i'd say kayaking:mountaineering as surfing:skiing...i have to confess I only skimmed the thread, but i think waiting game is vary analagous to riding giants...

0: remember that part where laird talks about gettign depressed in the ?winter ? (whichever season has little waves...solstice maybe i have no idea what i'm talking about)...and his wife quotes him: "its as if i was a dragon slayer and there aren't any dragons". Cheesy? Yes. Childish? Yes. But i think that like resonates deep within any true ski bum's core...watchign that movie absolutely tore me up inside because their waiting game for waves is exactly the same pain skiers feel for stoms, I got so stoked to ride I almsot had to stop watching it...the WG has treadway all pissed off in AK sitting by the side of the road praying for snow

1: just as skiers must wait for snow to fill in just right so they can drop that line theyve been waiting to hit for 5 years, surfer must wait for the primo conditions, rediculously big waves don't appear all the time, the conditions have to be just right...right?

i find the WG verysimilar to the end of riding giants, both are mind blowing, at least for me.

start with the WWII 10th mountainers maybe?, add a dash of those crazy 70's french dudes, a healthy side of blizzard of ahhhs plake and shmidt, sprinkle on a shitload of Seth, maybe get sidtracked with some pep, say grace with pierre, and i think you are ready for the full course of the waiting game

(definitely forgot soomeone really important, and prolly hyping WG too much...but eh)

Peralta doing a big mountain skiing documentary was the first thing I thought about after watching Riding Giants. Personally I can't stand most ski movies - no story, no history, any interviews consist of some dude talking about his sick posse, the music completely blows - completely two-dimensional. On the other hand, I loved "Dogtown" even though I hate skateboarding.

I've seen this film prolly 10 times or more. I get the chills just thinking about it. One hell of a documentary.

BTW - I don't think there's any sort of "skibum" culture that would compare to the surfing culture they highlight in this film. Thats why you can't do a similary thing for big mountain sking... IMHO, anyway...
