A couple other thoughts if you're looking for a damper/more compliant feeling for your hands. I tried out the new High Roller 3 in DD/MG over the summer, and it had a much damper, more compliant feel compared to a Conti DH Argotal. Similar sensation to the Radials but less extreme. I also had to bump up pressure 1-2 psi above what I ran with Conti DH to stop rim hits, but less than the 3-4 psi I added for Radials. I've also been running Conti Enduro casings up front on 2/3 of my bikes now that you can get them in Super Soft. They definitely are less harsh on the hands than the DH, and I have to run 1psi higher. Tradeoff of course is puncture resistance and rim protection, and rubber lifespan if you go Maxxis. Like all bike stuff, there are no solutions, only compromises. I took the Maxxis off for the summer and will put it back on in the fall/winter when things get wetter and less abrasive, speeds get lower, and grip is at a premium.

Sc tallboy v4 in new England. Worn out minion dhf 2.5 front and dhr 2.4 rear. Didn't realize how worn until I put it beside a fresh one.
I admittedly skimmed this thread but kryptotal? Argotal? Which in front?
    I like the 2.5 and 2.4 sizes.
    Happy trails

What's your sign? What phase is the moon in? Did the groundhog see its shadow this year?

Deep dive the last 10 pages you should get a good feel. That said, Argo soft is a great fall/winter tire up front.

Also re: ^^ the new high roller was all over the shops in Whistler, so ubiquitous that I was almost tempted to pick one up for poking and prodding. Seems there's a good reason

Kryto F supersoft in front has been a great front tire for me. Replacing maxxgrip Assegai. Conti supersoft is faster rolling and more durable than maxxgrip, but still very grippy and exactly what i was looking for.
I wouldn't put an Argo on a Tallboy type trailbike, but you do you. It's a very aggressive semi mudspike and loose conditions tire.
I could see a Krypto R supersoft in front as a faster rolling alternative.

I've also been using some Vittoria Mazzas front and rear and been quite pleased overall for more typical "trail" rides. Good blend of corner and braking traction and rolling speed.

I am running 29 x 2.6 Mazza and 2.35 Martello. Fast, grippy. Sidewalls seem very durable. They are small though. Way smaller than my previous e13 2.4 and 2.35, but e13 has their thumbs up their ass or whatever. Tires didn't seem to work out for them. The 2.4 AT was a little too squared off, as though it was designed for narrower rims. A 2.6 would have probably fixed this and offered even more cushion. A slightly knobbier rear tire than the semislick would have been nice on the rear. Or just the AT 2.4 with hard rubber, I guess. Instead they made an Ass Guy knockoff, replaced the semi slick with big side knobs with what looks almost like a 2.4 xc race tire, and some other 27.5 x 2.7 nonsense. That's not a typo.
Might try Schwalbe when I need new tires. Not the radials. Vittorias seem to be holding up well for now.
    No longer stuck.

Schwalbe is moving their whole product line to radial construction. If you don’t want radials for some reason, buy soon.

I don't want 2.5 radials. I want 2.6 and 2.4" tires. On my bike. Like I almost have now.

2.4 or 2.6 for Kryptols on my park bike? Are they true to size?

You probaly want real caliper numbers… but I can say my 2.4 enduro easing kryptol visually seems to be clearly smaller than my 2.4 DHR2 double down on the same bike.

The 2.6 is not undersized. I put one on each end of my wife’s Ripmo, and I had to replace the rear with a 2.4. It was way too tight for comfort. This is enduro casings on Reserve rims.

    I liked the 2.4 myself.

    2.4

Unless you're one of those people that thinks plus bikes were actually a pretty good idea. In which case you should still get 2.4's and work on coming to grips with the fact that you're wrong.

Thanks, 2.4 are ordered! Many many years of posts here and roughly 4500 posts of nuanced tire talk has not convinced me to switch from Maxxis until the recent kryptotal and other conti tire recs.

As a looong time maxxis guy, I just went dual 2.4 kryptotals myself (enduro front, dh rear, both supersoft). Pretty happy with them.

My take: they roll quicker than the assegai / dhr2 combo. The rear kryp is noticeably faster rolling than a dhr2. They're significantly better in straight line braking. The cornering knobs are a bit stiffer than maxxis, which means in supportive corners you can really lean on them hard. The flip side is that they don't conform and grip on slippery roots quite as well. They're not horrible, but maxxis is better. Front Kryp is closer to a DHF than an Assegai - it's somewhat on/off. It prefers to lean all the way over and hook up, not waffle around in the transition zone (which an Assegai is happier to do). Based on a rear Kryp that I ran earlier this summer, they last longer than maxxis. Contis come with some sort of slick anti mold coating on them when new. This makes mounting them a bit more difficult, and also means grip kinda sucks for the first few corners.

I'd probably still take a maxxgrip assegai or DHF up front for wet riding, but for anything dry-ish, I'm liking the contis.

plus tires make the slow guys faster, and fast guys slower.
