I’m not going to count Tiger out (in general, not this event) until he says he’s done. I’ve got a story…

Several years ago when it seemed like Tiger was washed, a friend of mine at my former golf club started accepting a couple of Tiger related bets. He’s a big gambler as were many of us at the club. The three bets were: Tiger will never win again, Tiger will never be top 50 in the world again, and then with extra odds Tiger will never win another major.

Then Eastlake happens and he takes a bath on both the tourney win and moving into the top 50. But when Tiger won Augusta he was truly fucked. I won $500 total from him (just said he’d win another event, not a major) and while he never confirmed the amount, I’m pretty sure Tiger cost him close to $20k when all was said and done.

Moral of the story: be careful who you count out.

Advertisers and sponsors are getting no value:

Viewership 69,000 on Golf Channel for Patton Kizzire's win in the Procore Championship.

It’s always been a pretty quiet event in Napa. Less of a star turnout than previous years however. Procore came in last second to replace Fortinet - I’m sure it was at a significant discount.

And LIV, had only 89,000 average viewers tuned into Sunday’s final round of their season championship down from 286,000 in 2023. I watched 20 min of the PGA, no LIV and 6 hours of NFL. But hey, we're all gonna get rich!!!

Also worth adding that the Ladies’ Solheim Cup averaged 600 - 700k. That’s where all the viewers were.

    2023 PGA

Let me preface this by saying that I’ve met Hull and she’s really nice (and attractive). But I don’t get why everyone is so excited about her smoking - it’s cringey as hell, like a bunch of 12 year old boys who are all impressed by their friend’s older sister who has a pack of cigarettes. It’s gross.

    This was funny however…

Watched a few holes of the PGA vs. LIV event last night. I'm sure it was fine and all, but the pace of play made Father's Day at 9am on the most crowded muni track look like warp speed in comparison. Couldn't watch any more standing around.

It was nice hearing David Feherty's voice on a golf broadcast again fwiw.

US Open playing tough today. Spaun goes bogey free to lead at minus four. Koepka lurking at minus two.

I overheard Lowery yesterday after missing a putt say ‘fuck this place’. Them greens weren’t giving it up this weekend.

both burns and scott blew it, they shoulda played more conservative on the back 9; the course was clearing the way.

Burns kind of melted down after they wouldn’t let him get relief from the puddle

Yeah. And considering that shot it seemed pretty clear he probably should have been given relief. One commentator even mentioned it.

It was cool to see JJ win as an "older" guy who hasn't won much.

The course was playing tough as hell, especially after the rain delay.&nbsp; What were they supposed to do that was more conservative?&nbsp; Neither did anything reckless like going for a pin they shouldn&#39;t.&nbsp; Happy for JJ - that&#39;s an all time grind it out win.</p>

Even for Oakmont, a scratch golfer shooting 93 (+23) was definitely a mediocre day. He was probably figuring around 88, which is bogie golf. I played Torrey Pines the day after Rocco and Tiger's playoff in 2008 - off the tips - same pins - and shot 82. I was around a 2 handicap at the time. The key was playing defensively and not trying to shoot lower than that, if that makes any sense. Fuck birdie, let's get bogie at worst and be happy with a par. I'm also pretty accurate off the tee so had a lot of nice lies for my second shots, even if I was hitting a lot of 3-4 irons, and a good lag putter from distance.

Here's an example: long ass par 4, you hit it in the fairway, and you're 235 out. I could choke-up on a 3 wood and go after the pin, or... hit my three iron, come up short of the green or on the very front, chip it up or lag it relatively close, and give myself a good chance for par or tap-in for bogie. It's a mentality that some people just aren't good at. It also doesn't work at a higher level to actually compete. There were pros who shot 80 this weekend that could have managed their way to 76's, but with zero chance of going lower than that.
