Good eyes, yes it was. It was sick!

Wow, what a day! Mammoth doesn’t get many days like today. The combination of cold temps, 2+ft of deep, blower pow and no wind effect is rare here. I’m claiming it as the best day of the winter.

It was a bit of a delayed start as the road up to ML was closed first thing. That drove all the skier traffic to CL & LE.
I chose to wait and sometime around 10:45 a.m. it opened. Turned into a day to remember.

First few laps of the day were in this area, reachable from
    ch 1.

It’s always good when you’re on lap #2 and it’s still just your track from the lap before.

Before 22 opened this area was [emoji91].

Late afternoon and still finding deep, untracked, lines in the tree’s. Super fun.

    Good stuff.

Last run. It was so good I skied it down to the road.

Skied the berm on the other side down to LE.

I skied Alta/SB three days last week which included a 20”+ pow day at Alta. Today was better.

Location-Canyon Lodge parking lot. This dude is doing some hardcore winter camping in the rooftop. Current temp at ML is a wind chilled 3 degrees.

All of the upper mtn didn’t open today and should still be really good tomorrow. Ski safe.

Anyone else signed up for the "Ripping Over 50" camp next week? I resemble half of that description, and since my wife's away on business (someone has to support my lifestyle in retirement), I made a last minute decision to go. I'm guessing it's no Gordy camp, but since ski manufacturers have selfishly decided to stop making innovations in equipment faster than my skills decline, I'm going to try and get coached up.

Thursday - Friday - Saturday had maybe the best snow conditions of the winter. Even in the storm, winds were light and viz was good on the mid-lower mtn. Saturday when everything upper-mountain popped was the bonus.

^^^ Agree 100%. Fri/Sat/Sun for me. Friday was super fun but you had to work for it....hiked top of 10 top of 22 twice then worked 25 the rest of the day despite the lift shitting the bed at one point over a half hour and then a few more times necessitating them to only load 2/3 chairs. Wind buff Sat/Sun was all time. Super creamy light snow all around and the best I've skied Dave's all year. Looks like the big warm up is on tap in the coming 7-10 days so it looks like a wrap to me after today's event for true "winter" conditions. All in all a B+ season, with the dry January really dragging it down.

Crazy day of storm skiing out on the hill today. 60+ mph winds were blowing all day creating whiteout conditions and shutting down most lifts by the end of the day. Patrol snow site on Sesame St. is showing 10” of new snow that skied deeper in places as the wind moved it around. Temps were cold. Wind chill at the top of chair 22 was 4 deg when it shutdown for day around noon after a 70+ mph wind gust.

Early morning drive down Hwy 395 was slower than usual.

Blazed fresh tracks over Conway summit and was in Mammoth by 8:30 a.m.

    Condo Line, Canyon Lodge.
By 11:00 the new snow was adding up.

By lunchtime the snow was deep enough that we weren’t hitting bottom anymore.

This area was reachable with an easy traverse.

This area is reachable from ch 2, which worked out well as it was one of the few chairs still open late in the day.

Another lap, then back to ch 2.
Repeated til it got to cold to keep skiing.

Last run down to the truck. Tree’s were the place to be today.

Still snowing hard at 4:00. The storm looks like it’s moving thru. Tomorrow could be really fun. Enjoy!

Pretty good day of skiing Wednesday. Mostly sunny with a few clouds late in day and a big SW wind that was starting to buff out sections of the Top.
    Here’s a few pics.

Stump Alley. Crowds were light and longest lift lines were 2-3 minutes max at G2.

Climax was one of the places that the winds were loading with snow.

Hangman’s was another spot that the skiing got really good. The snow after the choke was some of the best turns on the upper mtn.

    Daves just before last chair.

    Ch 5.

Avi 2, last run of the day.
Enjoy the winter snow while we have it & ski safe.

It was good out there! I’m sure you were out lapping 23 as well. The middle section of Dropout was velvet, wind blown hero snow.

Thursday afternoon was spent lapping ch 23.

    Lower Dropout from 23.

Best snow was right down the middle.

    Looking up Dropout.

Winds were blowing out of the South all night so the Top should be skiing well again today (Friday).

Get out there and enjoy the winter snow while it’s here. Big warm up forecast for next week with high temps in Mammoth approaching 60 deg and highs in Bishop & Reno reaching 80 degrees by Tue/Wed.

Yesterday (Fri) started off as almost a repeat of Thursday, with a the usual Friday uptick in skier #’s.

Dropout, with a full chair line on 23, was skiing well along with sections of the Wipeouts.

The bumps in Viva softened Friday afternoon and were fun skiing. Noticeable warm up and the snow got springy all the way up to ML. The melt freeze cycle has begun.

Late in the afternoon clouds rolled in quickly and the light got flat.

Last run up ch 23 was in a cloud bank making it tough to see anything. Not fun.

Headed over to ch 22 and dropped into Avi 1 just as the light went bad. Depth perception was zero. Tough to tell that there’s bumps thru the choke. It was time to call it a day.

Cool clouds Friday evening down at the airport.

ESS,I've had those days where the top gets socked in right on your last run. I remember waiting at the top of Hangman's for 15 minutes once, just waiting for a glimpse of visibility. It finally came, but those days when top top vis goes in an instant are not always fun.Hopefully this next storm system works out well. We're going up Tuesday PM or Wednesday AM, probably skiing through Sunday.

Still snowing. I have a feeling lower aspects will be amazing when the wind dies down.
