Bird was excellent today, especially baldy. Besides the tram everything else was ski right on to the lift. Easy driving in the morning. Minimal crowds. Had to bail at [emoji637] due to mid day road shoot and couldn’t afford to get stuck up until [emoji639]

Wasatch 24/25-Stoke, Conditions, and general debauchary

Required a little work but Alta was up for repeated powder laps all day yesterday. I expected ankle deep and got boot deep. Kinda brought the wrong skis but would have been ear to ear grins on anything that slid in the snow. Great day.

Canyon maybe closed for a little on the way up? We sat for a bit not moving, then all of a sudden everything started flowing. Didn’t bother to check cause we were having fun regardless.

Today should be good skiing everywhere. The BCC left turn lane looks only 10 lights deep, go get some!

Pardon the stoke interruption, gotta complain for a second to keep this feeling like a proper Wasatch thread.

What is it gonna take for Snowbird to get their parking shit together? Bumper to bumper uphill red snake up LCC just because everybody is hunting for the last FCFS parking spot at the Bird. Meanwhile, the Wildcat lot was less than 1/4 full.

What a terrible experience for an out of towner to spend 90 minutes getting up the canyon just to find they have no where to park. What do they do, drive back down? Go to Alta and get a parking ticket?

3 out of 4 cottonwood canyons resorts have seen the light. The answer is obvious...you have to institute parking reservations.

Oh, and even if the roadside parking capacity isn't known in advance, you can release that capacity the morning of. This isn't rocket science.

Alright end rant, had to get that out of my system lol. Skiing is fantastic everywhere right now, go get some!!

adding to this, this year is the first ive seen alta parking lot crew, reservation checkers, and the marshal stopping people at the bypass/mainline split and sending anyone without a parking res back downhill. this has happened a few times in feb, when alta lots are full and pre one pm. More tickets than I have ever seen at alta back on the 8th or 9th.

Can you guys take the parking stuff to the proper thread and not add to this one? It's here:

UDOT is going to end road parking within the next 1-2 seasons, so that won't be an excuse soon. Otherwise, it's a combination of laziness and greed. It is marginally more difficult to implement reservations since Snowbird's parking is more dispersed than the other Cottonwoods resorts, but they did it during covid and could do it again. On the greed side, it pushes Ikon traffic to Snowbird since Ikoners have to pay $25 to park at Alta.

A couple weekends ago we rolled into wildcat lot around 10 or 1030 or something, and got one of the last spots on the road into the lot from 210. When we came back to the car 1/2 or 2/3 of cars had tickets on them. At the base of the canyon on our drive up the sign did say Snowbird parking full. So ya, people that don't get a spot are going to Alta and either don't know they'll get a ticket, or don't care.Really don't understand why Bird can't do reservations for all their lots that are open regardless of avy conditions, then have the remaining parking be FCFS that gets announced at like 6 AM each morning once they get word from UDOT if things like road parking can open, Superior lot, etc.

Skied for the first time in Alta and Utah in general. I get the hype. The terrain is incredible. Forces you to be so nimble and ski with your feet. Stoked.

Yeah, it’s definitely a special place! We’ve had a great February - over one hundred inches in twenty days!

For a 'mediocre' year - it sure has been great. Like DTM and co. said above - it's an addiction that days like today keep ya coming back. Stay safe this weekend as the sun pushes folks to the No. half of the compass.

Losing december was a bummer but theres been good skiing (in LCC) pretty much nonstop since new years. Lots of good cold days. Im happy.

Not a good backcountry year though, and that reputation is locked for the year imo.

The road was fucked because the mainline was closed. Good call by udot as I saw one guy on superior set off two slides. Almost sent himself over exposure and the other slide was narrowly avoided by a skier in another group. Skiing was excellent, good snow and sun. Amazing that so many people wanted to get up there.

Castle was awesome. By the time we got up the conga line to main chute the trenches were severe. Great fun sunny day.

Yup. We had lucky timing and were about the 10th tracks at the end of the traverse. Absolutely worth the wait.

Called it after a couple of runs today. Snow got too warm yesterday and my knee still felt a little sore in left turns. Needed to start dialing it back a bit anyway since my BC heli trip is getting close.

Lucked out hitting the baldy gate just as patrol opened it. Maybe a dozen people ahead of me down main chute. Snow was fantastic. Then onto castle, which was deep and soft. Good times and beautiful day in the mountains.
