My guess is it was some variety of CEO dress down: "I didn't pick you to publicly spout your opinions. It doesn't matter if I agree with them or not. I'm the negotiator. All opinions come from me. Don't poison the table. STFU."

Its what happens when you pick someone obviously unqualified for the role.

Sounds about right. And describing Agent Orange as "the leader of the free world" is pretty rich

Ya - I am not sure he gets how isolationism works

Well I don’t think he gets how a lot of things work

You either lead or get out of the way.

What ever Putin bought him for was the deal of the century

The Afghanistan withdrawal deal Trump quote unquote negotiated upset the US negotiation team by giving away the key leverage tool at the outset. I imagine Trump wasn’t thrilled at the press coverage comparing the two situations as evidence Trump sucks as a negotiator.

Zelensky is gone, Pelosi shouldn’t have used him in 2020, involved Ukraine in our dysfunction, but she did.

GOP U.S. Senate Armed Services Chair Roger Wicker repudiated Hegseth's Ukraine speech calling it a ‘Rookie mistake’:

no Russia veto on Ukraine joining NATO
no to Russia back in G-7
no to a Putin state visit in US
no, Russia didn’t invade Ukraine b/c of NATO

“I don’t know who wrote the speech — it is the kind of thing Tucker Carlson could have written, and Carlson is a fool,” Wicker said.

Real smart: https://www.msn.com/en-us/science/ph...l/ar-AA1z2srjA drone armed with a warhead hit the protective outer shell of Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear plant early Friday, punching a hole in the structure and briefly starting a fire, in an attack Kyiv blamed on Russia. The Kremlin denied it was responsible.

Now Hegseth is trying to walk back his recent walk back, and instead claim everything he said in his dumbass session was correct and he stands by it.

He’s going back to his roots of supporting strongman dictators. It’s a family tradition.

The UK-based Telegraph newspaper has obtained a copy of a proposed peace plan being pitched by the Trump administration to Ukraine that has reportedly set off panic in Kyiv. As the Telegraph writes, the plan delivered to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week would amount to the US economic colonization of Ukraine, in legal perpetuity and also implies a burden of reparations that cannot possibly be achieved. In sum the plan would guarantee the United States half of the revenues generated by the extraction of resources in Ukraine going forward, as well as half of revenues generated by all new licenses issued to third parties in the country.
