53% of Americans think Canada should be a state if Donald says so. If I was a Canadian I'd be pissed at the American imperialist Kings followers.
54 40 or fight has a ring to it.

Can’t believe people are upset that Canadians are being mean to them. Most of my Canadian visits are to Quebec so I’m used to Canadians looking down their nose and being rude to me. Although in fairness, I’m pretty sure the Québécois look down their nose at the rest of Canada as well. Still looking at a Quebec City/Montreal trip in the next couple of weeks. At least if I get an angry note on the car it’ll be in French and I won’t understand it.
I don't think most Americans care about Canadians being mean to them. Apart from this thread, Im seeing very little coverage of Canadian opinion. Canadians are 100-percent justified in getting mad about becoming caught up in American culture wars. All I'm saying is they should recognize the reality that American politics are now almost entirely downstream of American culture
Sure, but on both sides of the border, normal human beings exist. They get up, get their kids dressed for school, go to work, and generally are good people.
The same can be said for Israel/Gaza, although it's far more volatile.
Dehumanizing a population in one fell swoop is easy to do on the internet, harder to rationalize in person.
read the TGR forum and its obvious a lot of Americans don't like Americans, how you gona win a personal attack if you don't make one

This is very true. ^^^
Our country is about as split politically as it ever has been, but in person here, you don't see the hate in a daily routine. Seems like the same must be true to some extent in Canada with the unpopular Trudeau, or maybe he's more popular now that he's facing the American threats.
It's the internet where the trolling mostly exists. It's a cesspool of anonymity, adults threating to fight each other, and other pathetic behavior.

D. I'd gladly share a track with you. I've got several tours involving wallowing thru facets, alder, bushwhacks and grade A suffering. You're one of the few who might enjoy that.
My trolling and snark reflects personal frustration at the way the world seems to be going, a lesser place for the future than one might have hoped. Please don't take my frustration at the US government as frustration at the US person. I know it sounds nuts buy in my travels even the most buttfuckistan redneck, when encountered as a human being, is almost always a nice person. I'm not sure and how that translated into the madness of crowds but pop psychologist I am not
I don't post the skiing stuff that much anymore as I used to as the target for these forums seems to be seniors with various physical ailments . Ntiawwt. We all get older but, you know and I know that ski related stoke isn't really that read much here. So for what it's worth we're of one mind as to how thus forum is going.
Most of us are sick of Trudeau. I'm sick of Trudeau. But Canadian rage is very muted and passive- aggressive and expressed through systems. I won't say there's no populist type rage expressions but they're so remarkable when they show up that they get press. Generally there's still faith in the systems and structures. They're sure getting deserved questioning now though I'll grant that
Eg freedom convoy and anti COVID. Did you know that over 85% of Canadians supported Covid measures in some part? Although there was a ton of grumbling about overreach and the extent and longevity of measures. 85% is a lot of consensus. Polling indicated that the support was largely predicated on the "good of the community" and "sacrifice for granny and grandpa argument". Sure there's a lot of questions now about how and why we came to these decisions but the willingness to delay/suspen individual rights for community good was there.
So le Quebecois are like Americans?
False:

edit to add: i don’t see Canadians in this thread or IRL hating on individuals at all, just the dumbfuck who stirred up this trouble.

Sure, same here. G pa from NS and G ma on the otherside from Ireland. G ma and British G pa settled in NB after ww2. She was a nurse for the war effort and met an injured British soldier.
Many settled here after the war so i'd imagine we'd except people settling here before the next one. Mtb and skiing in the maratimes is ass though. Lots of room in BC

Trudeau is quitiing so he as good as gone, he is almost an old news cycle which is not good for poliever cuz thats all he had was " Trudeau bad " and he would have definalty won an election,
I think carney will be the new guy and canadians may vote him in cuz Poliever isnt that likeable
you don't seem to get how pissed canadians are as a whole with the 51st state thing and then 25% tarrif,

Thx, Lee. Appreciate your post.
XXX, I can't say I can fully appreciate how pissed Canadians are, but I can understand why. I would never presume to know what it feels like to live in someone else's shoes. Working in healthcare and taking care of very sick people, I'd never tell someone "I know how you feel", because I don't.

well you seem to be sluffing it off to some extent which is the obvious reason we keep saying you have no idea
But you dont have to understand just wait for the figures to see how much tourism is down
how much tourism is up in mexico
about border towns becoming ghost towns
how many people are choosing with their wallets

It is interesting how Trump has changed the rhetoric up here to a certain extent. In December I would have put actual $ on PP winning our next election if I could have found a taker. Now however, folks are digging up (and they don't have to dig far) his association with MAGA types and his popularity is plummeting. To the point that a poll I saw this am puts him neck and neck with Carney. So maybe Trump will have us dodging a bullet in a way. My step-dad was an American or Canadian by choice as he put it. Many of my cousins are across the border types. For the longest time they had no idea where we were and they didn't care. What I wouldn't give for that peaceful time where the US President didn't mention our country on a daily basis and we didn't have to hear about it every morning. Can you guys just convince the Cheeto Jesus to pick another "national security threat" for a while?
You're ec, no?
Having lived in a summer tourist town full of people from Quebec most of my life and spending a winter in Burlington VT, I have many first hand experiences with people from Quebec. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but generally speaking I find their behavior towards others repulsive.
Summit
That could be but the Halifax's schedule for the river class is pretty slow less than one a year. Its a pretty same space so that is probably what it could do. How efficient it is to build there I don't know. I guess Davie is under new ownership and if you believe the sales vid maybe something will happen there.
I went skiing and missed a lot. I think people in Canada are dealing with this on different schedules. Its hard to get your mind around the uncertainty and the lies and disrepect given to the Canadian people its like we don't exist. Trump being Trump has got Canadians back up. I think we have to boycott from a grass roots level to show that we care and have some power. Lets face it its not going to change the overall trade that much. But it is important to show Americans and American politicans that Canadians are not happy.
Now should the American athem be booed ? No but show some sense of humour and sing over it - God SAVE the King?
People are mad and concerned but when I ask on the gondi where everyone is in from and I get an American state there really isn't any thing. Ok one time I made a crack when I didn't know. But on the hill we're all riders enjoying the mountain. We want you to come and enjoy our backyard. Plus if it really goes south we need you as human shields![]()

They have their reasons for hating Anglos its definatley a cultural thing that goes over my head here on the left coast BUT apparently Trump has managed to unite the french agaisnt America

it sounds like some “locals only” stuff, is there a tourist town that loves weekend people? where?
i don’t really see any bad behavior, mostly just neighbors shoveling out each others cars and whatever. i guess there are the occasional park kids putting their skis on right in front of the gates to the chair but it’s hardly something to point at and annex over.

Most Montreal/Quebec City folks are great. And that’s coming from an immigrant. The more rural folks tend to be snotty / pretentious.
But in general, there is a massive feeling of unity coming through the country. My company is national and mostly WFH, and back to back calls all day starts off with casual chat about how everybody is abandoning anything American.
I think America has more chance of a constitutional crisis plunging it into turmoil than an actual invasion at this point, and if there was an attempt at annexation/invasion it would be a distraction from he administration ignoring the courts.
At that point, I think America would find out real fucking fast why the Geneva conventions were written. Half the country is basically Ukrainian lol. But seriously, it would be an impossible feat to hold the country while also fighting a state by state battle internally.

The problem with the Rivers is not just the slow and extended delivery schedule given they need to replace the retired Iroquois, it is that they are also supposed to replace Halifax to some extent, and they come out doing a subpar job of ASW and a subpar job of being a DDG (air defense). It is going to have one helicopter and 24 VLS tubes. Anemic ASW and anemic SAM magazine.Originally Posted by DougW
Is the slow delivery rate about yard capability? I guess it is budgetary constraints, but I could be wrong.
I think cspringsposer and I have pointed out that Canada has the opportunity to boost defense spending toward 2% by spending at home via increasing industrial capacity in shipbuilding in auxiliaries like minesweepers and icebreakers that would be very important to NATO and the US as well as Canada.
I am sorry that this is upsetting for Mrs.WYou know I love you guys!
