Put a cork in it you unhinged twat, no one thought it was a good idea and cheering it on. Just because you imagine something in your feeble brain doesn’t make it true. Go home

Completely my thoughts as well. For the record I was a huge Musk fan. Have a Y and held a serious position in TSLA. He’s gone off the deepend and his greed is out of this world. Amazing to me how Donny and Musk both changed their political leanings once they pegged how gullible the vengeful right base are in order to further enrich themselves.

The trump appointed courts are trending towards eliminating citizen suits... meaning that they will not allow private citizens to sue corporations for breaking the law (pollution, bank mismanangment, etc), it will be up to the government to sue and hold the companies accountable. They say that this will reduce/eliminate wasteful and frivalous lawsuits from being filed by citizens against these corporations. The problem is that these government oversight departments (EPA, consumer protection agency, etc, etc) are being gutted or cut entirely... and they were way understaffed to keep up with the workload to begin with.

Essentially, what is being created is a situation where it will be nearly impossible to hold corporations accountable when they do not meet lawful regulations. And they know this. In fact, they are already pushing a bunch of these "citizen suit" cases through the courts right now in the hopes that one of their cases make it to SCOTUS and the illegality of citizen suits becomes case laws and precedent. This has the side effect of chilling citizen suit enforcement right now, because unless the case is absolutely bulletproof, many attorneys do not want to pursue these cases and risk their 50/50 case resulting in SCOTUS precedent that kills off all citizen suits going forward.

The implications of this are scary once you start looking at the ripple effects.

^they're plenty scary before the 'ripple effects'.

The NATO thing is pretend safe harbor for the disingenuous crowd. First, that's a mutual defense pact and a spending guideline - not the fucking trade agreement... that was constructed by the madman himself. Second, if you were trying to get an ally to spend more in hopes of better overall defense - is the best strategy to sabotage their GDP? So, hey, we crater their GDP so their defense spending percentage hits 2% but only because we lowered the denominator. Smart. Or (more likely) we weaken them so they're flailing to keep their ship afloat and worsen hopes of effective defense spending.

The only reason people bring up NATO in this trade horseshit is because Canada has been an exceptional partner to the USA and you have to reach outside of trade, border concerns to find something that CA is a bit weak on. It's fucking gross.

I love that the right is all about law and order until you suggest everyone should pay the taxes they owe and then it's all "state overreach!" and "personal sovereignty!" And a willful refusal to understand that IRS enforcement isn't going to target median income folks, never mind that the money's in tax dodging corporations and one percenters.

John Manley quotes: former deputy prime minister

-Canada no longer useful in world affairs.
-We seem to have decided that we would rather carry a soapbox with us and tell people how to do things differently.....
-We liked being at the G7 table until the waiter brought the bill, then we'd find a reason to go to the washroom.
-We've got to start picking up the tab.

Canada lists the Taliban as a terrorist organization. Canada got it right on Iraq and WMD. Canada (Trudeau 2021) didn't recognize the Taliban as a valid government.

Canada was not the only other NATO member in Afganistan.
51 countries were involved one way or another.

And based on the current tax laws, the wealthy are already fucking over the common man with the extraordinary amount of legal loopholes.

    telee,

Canada is a beautiful country. That said, this thread has turned an otherwise cool forum into a "us against them" theme within the halls of TGR and I find it disappointing. I understand the outrage, but I don't think it justifies personal attacks and broad condemnation of all Americans, nor does it justify the juvenile personal attacks that occur here.

Maybe it's just the pathologic nature of the internet and the outspoken.

I totally agree with that - seems like there are a lot of other countries we could be directing our outrage at. The issues we have with Canada and them with us seems pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.
Although, I will say in all my years here juvenile attacks are pretty commonplace - especially in the padded room.

Again, nothing to do with this current nonsense, but that is where I have observed frustration from US defense officials in regards to Canadian military spending.
Agreed buying clapped out oz F-18As (non-superhornets) was a bullshit copout move ostensibly for commonality with... CAFs existing clapped out CF-18As.

If CA didn't want to spend on F-35As, they should have bought F-15EX as that is the perfect interceptor aircraft for CANR patrols with APG-82 AESA, supercruise, long legs, and huge missile capacity (12 AIM-120/260).

Oh yes. And he used to be an options trader. Pre-RobinHood days, options traders used to be facts- driven and un emotional.

    Trackhead,

I don’t want to go through your posting history but I remember that this isn’t the first time you’ve decried the lack of stoke, what the forums have become, etc.

If the us vs them bothers you so much (especially given the context of the President saying that Canada is “ripping us off”), why don’t you stay in the stoke threads?

Am I missing the posts that have been so disrespectful that we need to put the whole forum on trial?

Just for the record, my grandfather was from Nova Scotia and my grandmother on the other side is from Ireland. So trump probably considers me barely American. Maybe Canada will take me in. Skiing and mtn biking is better.

I can't blame the Canadian's American hate. I'm an American and I hate 50% of my countrymen.

Trumps Canada bluster is intended much more for an American audience. Trump picked a fight with Canada & Mexico because those are countries majorities of Americans are interested in. Picking a fight with Columbia just elicits a big shrug. The overriding way to think about the Trump admin, and Im offering an explanation not a justification, is weakening the American progressive ruling class control over the centralized bureaucracy or "deep state" as well as its control over the culture.

A lot of what hes doing is trying to upend progressive American opinion by thumbing his nose at it. Its not a cohesive strategy, at all. Theres no planning. Its about changing American culture. Since most of here are part of the NPR crowd we dont get it. The fact is though, a lot of Trumps words and policies are popular here in the states.

Broad tariffs on U.S. trading partners, however, are not popular. Most Americans not longer see them as justified. The best way to constrain Trump is for Canadians, and American Democrats, is to moderate on their least popular culture war issues and oppose Trump on his most unpopular issues like tariffs. Embrace abundance instead. It might be fun and inspiring to boycott American goods and stick it to American businesses but if you accidentally turn American public against Canada, then it becomes a dangerous game that hurts Canadians a lot more than Americans

    Ex-powerbroker,

I could stay out of these forums, but it's a work boredom/self inflicted pain I guess. It's my own problem, not yours or the forums.

Perhaps I find the Canada/American relationship appealing, as of until late, and disappointing we can't figure out a path forward. Loss hurts. I see the loss in these forums as painful. Suddenly every Canadian is here is "putting on trial" to use your words, every American here. Where previously we might have been able to share a skin track. I always wanted to ski with LeeLau (I loved his TR's from the early days) but I very much doubt he'd want to do the same at this point.
