Apparently, House Republicans are really laughing out loud to the point of wiping away tears at Senators reactions. There are now calls by Senators to unseal the details at any hearing. The wild card in all of this is recess appointments. There's a plan circulating to evisceration the Senate's advice-and-consent role

Since this is the Ukraine thread, European leaders are responding to all of this by calling for Ukraine’s “victory” in its war against Russia

This is why the trump voters was a vote against you. You're the attorney or accountant that gets in the way of work. The democrats are HR, who get in the way of work. You both take yourself too seriously. People voted for someone who at least gave of the appearance of getting to work. Most people want to work and be able to joke, not be condescended to. And yet you bloviate about issues. Just get the fuck out of the way. People with less fucktard biznass speak will get the work done.

See, your post above contradicts your previous post. Are you saying you're a Trump voter or that the right has been bonkers for a generation now? Or both? It's incoherent. It's like watching a clown running across a minefield

    Huh?
You're saying the two are the same? Haven't you pointed to the Latino factor? A set of voters that you say haven't been right but are now Trump voters? You're that quick to be a hypocrite because you hold a grudge?

Apparently the house was going to vote to release the Gaetz report this Friday, so that’s why Gaetz resigned now.

Seems like bullshit that resigning keeps the report from ever seeing the light of day.

They were going to vote on releasing it. Now it's the House speaker's decision because of a precedent, not a law. The precedent is based on the fact the panel no longer has jurisdiction when a member leaves. Speaker Johnson won't want to break precedent let alone go against Trump

Hold a grudge? Nonsense. I'm saying your argument is like French infantry rifles. Never been fired... just a bunch of dropped words that were never aimed at anyone, let alone to me

And I cracked a few jokes in return. My jokes are funnier. Only a poor sport would scream "mommy, he hit me back!!!"

Maybe it's just me, I can't always tell the difference. But I give you the benefit of the doubt. Fuck yourself.

    See what I did there?

Do you need me to explain the French infantry rifles joke? After all, you're what people might call 'charm-free'

Why would you expect that? Spell it out for me, please.

Is this one of those jokes? It's hard to tell.

Getting this thread back on track... recall back in 2022 how one of the main arguments made here for supporting Ukraine was that by not supporting treaty countries from nuclear armed countries, countries like Ukraine would have to consider attaining nuclear weapons for their own survival.

If the United States pulls support for Ukraine or steamrolls Kyiv's concerns then the bill for the Budapest Memorandum will come due. If NATO membership isn't an option then Ukraine will in all likelihood become a member of the nuclear club. They have the wherewithal and capability. If that happens then it's hard to see how other allies like JP, SK and TW won't follow suit

That's North Korea's argument: abandoning nuclear weapons sealed the fates of Saddam and Gaddafi. in reality the Libyan & Iraqi programs were ineffective and had little chance of success. Whereas Ukraine had nukes. Ukrainians are arguing believing the United States’ would stand by its long-term commitment was a fatal mistake. Last year, Bill Clinton even said he regrets demanding Ukraine give up nuclear weapons.

The phrases "NATO expansion" and "NATO enlargement" originated in the Kremlin before gaining traction in a few Western academic circles. NATO didn't so much "expand" as Poland, the Baltic states, and other Eastern European countries begged to join. They begged to join in a way not unlike Ukraine is wanting to join today. Like Ukraine they were met with similar resistance from the West.

Poland explicitly said we don't trust Russia. Let us into NATO or we're going to build a nuclear arsenal. We now know they had good & valid reasons for wanting to either join NATO or join the nuclear club. Nuclear nonproliferation is one of the benefits of NATO. Now we face a similar choice with Ukraine

The Soviet Union has cut payments for wounded. The Soviet Union and Ukraine have more (relevant) drone combat experience then the American military.

Update - 11/3 Institute for the Study of War. "The Kremlin is attempting to dictate the terms of any potential "peace" negotiations with Ukraine in advance of US President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration."

    Also
Putin signaled an "I own you" to Trump last week by saying Trump lied about speaking with Putin and Russian TV running a story mocking Donalds wife with nude pictures of her previous profession.
