You're new, but with a username like that I'm gonna assume you get this: rod bought stock in gazprom and gets his "news" and "investment advice" from zerohedge. So he may not actually know, but now you do.

Western leaders never pledged not to enlarge NATO, a point that several analysts have demonstrated.

I would invite you to explore the following link: https://www.csis.org/analysis/twq-my...ia-spring-2009

Here, Mark Kramer reviewed the question in detail, drawing upon declassified American, German and Soviet records to make a case and noted that, in discussions on German reunification in the two-plus-four format (the two Germanys plus the United States, Soviet Union, Britain and France), the Soviets never raised the question of NATO enlargement other than how it might apply in the former East Germany.

If not, what are smaller countries under threat to do?

Why do you think NATO exists? Why do you think small countries want to join it?

When in your mind did NATO go from the good guy, a defensive bulwark against expansionist Communist Russia, to threat-to-Russia-bad-guy? When did Russia go from communist imperialist bad guy to totalitarian imperialist yet-some-how-good guy? Explain this?
1949 NATO is not today’s NATO. I see its existence these days as pointless.

And it’s never ending expansion east and recent attempt in Ukraine provoked Russia to invade. The west even interfered with signed peace deal; further escalating Putin.

Anyway, I’m glad the war will over shortly. You watch how fast it ends when there’s a 20 year guarantee NATO won’t expand into Ukraine.

20 year guarantee? We're America! Why are we giving guarantees to russia because they decided to rape people? If we're making deals then why can't we stick with nato...why are we making deals with adversaries and not friends!? If we're just not making deals, because America first, why are we making deals with Russia?

The Ukrainian's are choosing to fight for themselves. Against a country that has never been 'our' guys. Why are you so stoked for their war to survive against a no-better-than an acquaintance end? Why are you such a fucking hater?

I say we go with Putin's new world order. We're America! It's our sacred manifest destiny to expand west, and utilize the resources we find. I read China's been eyeing Siberia so we ought to act now and preemptively annex it. It's Sarah Palin's backyard, and that means it's always been American. If Putin objects, send the Apaches and Tomahawks as we reclaim our ancestral and forever lands. Start with little green men in Sakhalin, as there's oil there. Further justification, not that we need any - Siberia has a bunch of English speakers who we must protect from Russian oppression.

    And Putin's arguments are ridiculous

What does that even mean? Be specific?

For the 100th time, NATO doesn't force nations to join. Nations BEG to join to be protected from invasion by bully aggressor states ruled by dictators: Russia.

This is the same now as it was in 1949, 1968, 1990. Democracies don't want to be invaded by authoritarians.

You watch how fast it ends when there’s a 20 year guarantee NATO won’t expand into Ukraine.
USSR fell 22 years ago. How many years should Russia be able to invade its neighbors for, exactly? And why?

Why do you buy into the idea that democracies should not be allowed to enter into defensive alliances against aggressors?

Did you know that Europe is gonna keep up the fight without us? Because they don't want to have a Russia that is vastly more powerful and emboldened after ingesting Ukraine.

The only Chinese national fighting for Ukraine lost his life. Peng Chenliang, from Yunnan, China. He was imprisoned for seven months for voicing his support to Ukraine and for criticizing the communist party. He arrived in Ukraine last April and fought alongside three Taiwanese soldiers. RIP to Peng along with all the foreign volunteers like Americans Jericho Magallon & Dane Partridge who gave their lives for another country's cause

This is especially true for Europe's north and east:

"Poland is preparing to establish a European alliance in support of Ukraine in response to Donald Trump’s anticipated return — Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk

“We will actively coordinate with countries that share our views on the geopolitical and transatlantic situation, as well as on Ukraine. No one seeks an escalation of the conflict, but Ukraine must not be allowed to weaken or capitulate, as this would pose a serious threat to Poland and our interests,” Tusk stated.

The alliance could include the UK, Nordic countries, and the Baltics." -- Kyiv Post

President-Elect Trump says U.S. veteran & Florida rep Mike Waltz will serve as his National Security Advisor (currently Jake Sullivan's job). This is what Mike said about Russia in October:

Gotta agree with more from our allies, especially "enforce the dam sanctions!"

I agree, and the allies seem willing.

I also agree on export US gas an oil and it cuts off the economic engines of the Russian war machine and Iranian terror machine. But, it may not be as simple as a flip of the switch. The Euros would love to buy our gas, but there is infrastructure and shipping on both sides.

He plays for easy points in the Biden admin not saying "what is victory" but he might not be wrong that if we expect a particular outcome, we could demand it, as we have in past wars. However, it misses the point that Ukraine ultimately makes and agrees to such things.

Anyway, Trump could have picked someone much much worse than that.

This is the point when you had alarm bells? You seem to be on point on a good deal. Did you try to convince any of these people you think I(we?) are too good for, or did you just sympathize while the bell had been ringing all along? I'm not certain I know a single kamala voter, let alone a progressive. I don't need to sympathize, I was trying to tell people the obvious. Yet some keep telling me I'm out of touch and hyperventilating. The bells have been ringing for YEARS. Just the lapierre in Russia thing was crazy. The right has been bonkers for a generation now. Sympathy gets you this. The whole we just got to understand thing makes you soft in their eyes. It's not entertaining to them unless you get kicked in the balls.

lol, I don’t think so, clowny. I mean, I've always thought you were a parody account? The post above certainly makes it look that way.

In any event, the alarm bells refers to appointing someone whose bad judgment on foreign affairs is her only consistent gimmick

I simply don't follow, question mark or not. And I don’t know why you're taking my last post, out of all of them, so personally. I also assumed you were referring to Gaetz as well.

Personally? Not at all. I meant that I never took/take you seriously. Are you really this credulous and naive IRL? Anyway, Gaetz is about to meet Senate oversight so my working theory is he's a trojan horse for Trump's actual pick

Read that Gaetz has already resigned his seat, and that ends the investigation.
