It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.
I'm a gutter rat and have to take what legs are open. With your blood line perhaps your more like The Baz than you've been letting on old chap

Looking for lodging recommendations near Verbier. Coming through in early March 2025. I assume we can manage without a car coming from Geneva. Any suggestions would be welcome

ryanair and easyjet fly daily from my local airports to the likes of Munchen, Zurich Geneva. All 3 airports open up options. Zillertal could be fun. Hoch Fugen, Zell am Ziller and Mayrhofen all have some good easy access freeriding and a good apres scene.

Looking for recommendations on where in France to spend two months this winter. I have been to the Alps twice. The first time was La Grave and the second time was Chamonix. Both were good, but I would like to switch things up. Here is what I am looking for:
-Cheap hostel lodging or easy to rent apartments within walking distance of the mountain
-Good place to speak French - Chamonix wasn't good for this because everyone spoke English, La Grave was great in this regard
-Roudy terrain and good snow
Any thoughts?
Les 3 Vallées
Bourg St. Maurice, mountain access is via a funicular going up to Les Arcs close to the train station. From there can access Paradiski complex (La Plagne). An hour upvalley, there's Val d'Isere/Tignes that satisfies your 2 & 3, but cheap isn't spoken there.
Another option is Orelle in the Maurienne Valley with cable car access to Val Thorens and Trois Vallees. There's a bunch of little towns in the Maurienne and a slew of ski areas like Val Cenis, Val Frejus, La Norma and Bonneval Sur Arc.

Some indications the high pressure might move on by mid November. Last proper rain I saw was mid September. Some places are on water rationing regimes. Valencia meanwhile...strange times.
Stay as close to the lifts as possible the walk up the hill can be kind of a pain but I think its $$$$ the closer you get. I remember having a 10-15 minute uphill schlep vs wait for the bus. Further down where it was cheaper walking would have not been possible with all your shit.
On this token I have Epic and want to access 4 Valleys from the other side.
Is staying in Sion a good idea for both 4 Valleys and Crans Montana or is it something of a no mans land and I should pick one to be closer to. Would use bus and ubers to get to the lifts in the AM I guess but would consider car rental.
Totally agree with this statement. Its been 20 years ago but I imagine it hasn't changed much when I stayed down at Hotel les Touristes which had a conveniently located bus stop to get up the hill to Medran lift in the morning and since it was one of the first stops usually had some seats available. I would have to walk back down after a few apres drinks which wasn't too bad in ski boots as the bus stopped running soon after lifts closed but would then walk back up for dinner and nightlife. This was fine for my young cheapass but I would definitely look to stay closer to the action now.
Not sure about staying in Sion as I only saw the train station but places like Nendaz or Tzoumaz might be good access points although way more sleepy than Verbier. Also I thought staying in Le Chable and taking the gondy up from there looked a decent option if wanting to save some money.
I think that in order to ski Verbier with epic, you have to sleep in one of the accommodations affiliated with the resort. Not like in Crans and Andermatt.

Don't care about that was planning on buying 2-3 days at 4 Valleys and using 2 days at Crans Montana (free.) Would inevitably be a bit shorter since you lose 3 days traveling to Europe if you count the day you fly. I don't have 2 weeks free to do this and won't use multiple hotels changing hotels on ski days sucks would need to pick one spot with access to both places.
I'm sure I could make Sion work and the costs would be pretty low.
Stay in or around Le Chable. Walking distance to the gondola to take you to Verbier/Medran. The lift runs until midnight and there is enough town there without feeling like you are in ‘no man’s land.’ We do every weekend in Volleges (with a three year old in tow) and make the gondola to Verbier work without fail. The access from Sion isn’t as great…I would even consider one of the towns before Le Chable with access to train over Sion…
Forecast is starting to shape up nicely for the alps next week and beyond…
