Good, he deserves to play with a good team.

Now, if the Browns could only stay out of my feed during the Guardians' playoffs I'd be happy.

Super Bowl 2028 (whoever started with the stupid roman numerals can pound sand) coming back to ATL.

I don't think my Browns will have righted the ship by then unfortunately.

Now who is Watson going to "throw" to?? Just when you think the Browns can't get any worse, they trade their best offensive weapon away

Amari thrived in CLE posting multiple 1,100+ yard seasons but the vast majority of those yards were received from QBs not named Deshaun Watson. He and Watson clearly had issues getting on the same page as evidenced by his top of the league drops ranking this year.

And Watson is hot steaming garbage.

This trade just continues to have negative effects on the organization. What a joke.

Actually the trade makes sense. The Browns are saddled with the worst contract of all time so they might as well just tank for a few seasons and start thinking about 2-3 years from now when they can finally just cut Watson (can’t next year, it would be a $172M dead cap hit). It’s the right move.

By then they will have wasted DPOY and future HOFer Myles Garrett's career.

    SOP for this franchise.

and the funny thing is that the trade for Watson was all about maximizing their championship possibilities for a team that thought it was very close. The notion that the best course is to now tank for the next few years to get out from Watson is hilarious (not necessarily wrong, but hilarious). Unless you are Bmills or EWG, who might not be laughing so much.

They should trade him too. If they don’t it makes no sense.

If the Haslams want to completely piss off the fanbase (read: season ticket holders) then they'd trade Garrett and/or Chubb. Cleveland is different when it comes to their sports teams, I would assume it's similar in Green Bay, there's just some things you don't do as an owner.

Myles is a minority owner in the Cavs, and deeply engrained with the city through his art programs, charity and partnerships around town. He's the new Bernie Kosar. If there's anyone in that city that isn't going anywhere, it's him.

    And Jose Ramirez.

They should trade both Garret and Chubb, cut Watson and eat the dead cap, and say we’ll see you in five years

Seems like the message sent by trading your best WR is that, we're giving up on this season.

Why not trade Chubb too? I can think of at least half a dozen teams who would be psyched to get an RB of that caliber, he might even fetch a 2nd round pick.

Check out what I just posted in the Browns thread. The Haslams know the quickest way to see their season ticket holders (and loge leases) crater is to deal away one of the city's favorite sons.

imagine telling a raider fan back in 01 on that snowy night in Foxboro that tom Brady will eventually become the goat and an owner of the raiders.

there's a good chance that when mark Davis passes on Brady will become majority owner

Zero chance. Brady is far from majority owner wealthy. With the stadium that team is worth at least 6-7 billion.

This reminds me of people joking about Taylor Swift buying the Chiefs and it’s like… uhhh… no.

They're talking what it would take to move Watson to a team with ample cap space today - Carolina being that trade partner.

Kinda similar to the Browns' trade for Brock Osweiler which was all about getting the draft picks that came with that drag anchor.

Please, make this happen Browns and turn your franchise back to the loveable losers that they've always been.

No one is taking Watson. Not even Carolina. Gonna give them like 11 first round picks?

I said that upthread - Panthers have the cap space, and the Browns have already paid a good chunk of Watson's contract when they converted a big part of it to a "signing bonus". I think they owe him ~90mil of the original 250.

But if you gave Carolina a 1st round pick PLUS an incentive like "we'll eat half of that 90 mil" it *might* make sense for the Panthers - especially when you consider that 1st rounder has a better than average chance of actually being pick #1. (or at worst, #2 or 3)

Pretty sure they owe him $172 million due to the nature of the backloaded contract, at least as far as cap hits go. Cap hits and actual $$ due to signing bonuses don’t always match but they still matter. This shit gets crazy complicated. But again, they’re gonna have to give Carolina a lot more than just a first round pick.

i'm not opposed to the panthers trading for watson and twos firsts and eating the whole $92mil. there is no winning these next two years. there is no fanbase to lose. fuck it. bmills, have your people write it up.

Where are you getting $92 million? That’s just the base for 25 and 26. Everything I’ve read has said they’re still on the cap hook for 172. So they can’t really do that because the overall cap next year is $255 million.

He’s still owed 92 mil in real dollars. Cal hit over the next few is much higher due to the conversion of his contract a couple times into bonuses and extra years. Any bonuses get spread out over the life of the contract. So they doubled and tripled up on cap hits for the next two years. It’s like a 72 million dollar hit the next two years. But the cost is “only” 92 mil total.

Might make sense for a team like Carolina. The high cap hit means they can justify paying less to actual players as they tank for picks, so it’s a matter of them deciding how much they are willing to spend per pick. If that answer is that they will spend 45 mil per first round pick then it’s two firsts.

But Cleveland is then giving up on staying in contention cause they give up replacement picks. In order to keep their picks they keep Watson and his cap hit and give up cap flexibility and free agents - as well as signing their own guys. They’re in a bad spot.

The only clean way out is to bench him and hope he asks to be released. Never gonna happen. And they’d still have 30 mil dead cap hits.
