Seriously, huge bummer. I love the old WPA lodges. We were just up there last summer

It sounds like it wasn’t terrible at TLine. Could have been much worse.

Anyone have seasonal beta on how the snowpack has been in the Wallowas this year? Looking like I mind end there for a couple nights in late May. Curious what roads/trails/drainage should be considered for spring skiing access? Thanks for any help or trips

75% of avg in the northern wallowas, close to avg in the southern wallowas.

I haven’t been that late in the spring, but have done multiple March and early April trips.

May sounds pretty late based on my experience, things get pretty cooked in April.

If you can get deep into the interior or up high, maybe you’ll find some good turns in late May?

Wallowa Lake Tramway could possibly be running by then for some easy elevation gain?

Kid is coming home in a couple weeks — I’ll get him up for a nostalgia glue day at mhm before they close. Maybe even Super Bowl.

He’s started to get out for bc days this year & he lit up at the idea of doing some volcanoes. He said he wants to summit Hood — I don’t have the skills/experience to assist with that (much less legs anymore, Super Bowl wears me out). Maybe I can find like minded partner/mentor for him? I do know some mazama types here in town.

What other simple day spring tours should he line up?
    Cooper Spur
    Mt St Helens
    Mt Adams
Is tattoosh too low? [not sure I can point him up rainier without some mountaineering skills or at least an experienced mentor]

^^^ let’s talk, AC! First step maybe palmer over to illumination? 2-3 hr pull uphill with a long descent down zig zag, and a bit of a slog back uphill to get home. Has he done that already?

Wyeast is a good next step after that. I’d be happy to get out this spring with him.

    Those both sound good!
As far as hood, he's only skooched up to silcox hut in June once a few years back. His takeaway then was walking uphill was a bore. Things have changed. He skied dragon's tail this morning in rmnp with a friend.

i'll reach out when he's home

It was mighty fine. Plenty of unused snow to go around, which was good because the used snow was USED

    Mt Bachelor

Is anyone riding Bachelor this weekend? I grew up on the mountain reaching for MBSEF, but don't live in Bend anymore or have any friends in the area. Would love to meet up with a fellow Mag and share a chair or a beer in Skyliner lot. if Northwest is still open, I'll most likely be hitting up Outback trees or traversing out to the back bowls. I'd live to name a new friend or two. Please send a PM if you're down to make a couple turns. Thanks and hope to see you all out there!

Now that Northwest is closed....is backside of summit closed? I mean...if its open how do you all get back to the lodge afterwards? Walk?

Scored a cheap day ticket to Tline yesterday and went up until around noon. Of course, that resort is just too dang flat for any real good powder skiing, but the snow started coming down in big cold flakes by the end of the day, really softening up the piste and made for some fun turns. Can't complain when we're getting fresh snow on the last day of April. Curious how the snowpack will hold up in the coming weeks, this could definitely extend the backcounty/volcano season.

Either way, for all the December fears about this being a shit season for the PNW, I think this turned out to a very good year for Oregon/Hood especially. Multiple big, cold storms, a consistent spring, and now a late April dump? My only real complaints are with Meadows operations for repeatedly dropping the ball on key days, but what else is new? Hope everyone had a fun time out there.

glad someone got out to enjoy this late cycle!

(i'm deadlining a project & getting over covid this week; to make it weird & hugely frustrating, the client just said they never approved the next project phase which we just invoiced half of...umm, you explicitly did via email in direct response to me directly asking you for approval to move on "to the next phase itemized in our proposal dated xx/xx/xxx"...are you fucking kidding me?!!?)

anyway, glad you got to hit it, even at t-line

some...gotten. Cold shag carpet velcro'd to the headwall between the Pinnacles made for smooth steep turns at the Butte. Bonus for seeing TBS and Jonesy in teh Sky lot.

^^^ But spring returns by Wednesday.

Speaking of, today was an unexpectedly sunny treat, esp after it softened up.
