that was just a little side option in 1, just to do something different. patrol goes through there sometimes to slough out the snow. I would say the best way to get to 3 is probably from 4. idk, I went to 2.5 from 2 one time and side stepped over rocks to do so. didn't see a clear way to 3 from there.

not mandatory airs but some working your way over rocks and through chokes depending on conditions. people do get themselves cliffed out in there from time to time though I suppose.

There was a mag that got rescued out of the fourth sg. Cliffed out. That at said, if you follow the main lines they all go. It is when you start fucking around between them that you get in trouble. But most of that can be worked out too.

My kid keeps telling me he is going to ski 4.2 before me. It looked almost ready (looking up from the bottom) as of last week.

Apparently Ikon will only have 5-7 days at the basin next season according to Unofficial Networks. So I still gotta buy a basin pass. I think I'm happy about that, although it means paying more money. Maybe it'll remain less crowded. Still probably going to buy Ikon for travel options though.

I think this is what i wanted to hear, strictly because of the crowd issues. But I also wonder how much busier it would be if it was unlimited. I like to hook up with Ikon friends and get them to come over and they rarely use all 5, even if they ski 30-40 days total. They're frangers though. Living is summit and having Ikon with unlimited A-basin probably means more basin days.

Not sure how the employee passes work these days for the other areas, but that used to have a big impact on A-Basin spring days.

Very good point. After Copper and Wanker Pankake close it could be a shitshow. Hmm

They close late April/early May. Everybody is pretty much done by then. The occasional powder-frenzy day at the Basin non-withstanding...

Be there sunday for a rare day to ski with my wife. She takes it very easy. It would be great to get a lap or 2 with someone from here while she takes a breather.

Blue pants, black pack. blue pants for her too. Say hi. If you see us on the marmot bowl deck...well I'll bring an xtra pocket beer. Also likely to spend some time at the BML bar.

Be at the luv on saturday, sans wife.

got into narrow north and north y today. narrow is filling in nicely but skiing it you could tell they blasted the shit out of it, skiing through lots of heavy bomb snow in all kinds of places. North Y was super variable with firm areas, breakable crust, a dust layer and a few nice soft spots. tough to see up there today but no wind so it was doable. Just fun to be up there. Below the traverse skied great.

the little bit of fresh made pali ski really well in the afternoon, even if I was hoping for a bit more.

Well with the uncertainty of what ikon will do to how busy it is at the basin, it'll be the perfect year to forgo a basin only pass to be able to afford a Japan trip. haha

Basin is for terrain skiers, not powder skiers. Japan is the opposite. Both great in their own ways tho. Dont think i could give up a season at the basin for a trip to japan though. Personal preference and all that.

More dick eaters than average up here today. Highway parking under the widowmaker path is always a highlight.

Sweet, thanks for the geography info. I'll give the other SG runs a try the next time I'm in the area.

We missed parking by about 15 minutes (late start). Briefly considered parking with the 100-200 cars on 6 below the entrance. Ended up bailing and hitting Copper.

Never seen so many cars parked on the road. A Basin employees were threatening tickets and towing. Anybody know if that actually happened?

There were some days last year that some cars were towed though I am not sure about today. Seemed like more of a teaching a lesson or this is what could happen to you type of scenario vs actually trying to tow all the cars but I feel like they aren't fucking around with that. Sounds like parking filled by like 9:30 today, I mean I'm not surprised with some snow this week and bluebird skies but damn that feels aggressive.

It's just crazy how the place is either dead or full. Yeah I know weekdays vs weekends, early season vs spring, etc. but still.

hopefully tomorrow isn't as crazy, probably come up for some afternoon laps.

Fucking great day up there today. Get there early or get there late. Nothing in between. East wall was super fun.

Luckily the wife can get medallions somewhat often since she works for BGV if we really want to go. I've been to Japan before and have been pining to go back ever since, while she hasn't been so I really want to to take her.

But the other rationale for the decision is how busy it's been on weekends there this year, yesterday was silly and we went at 1pm, still a huge pali line. Almost felt close to gaper day on the beach haha It did ski very well though.

...I'm also still adjusting to the wife's new-ish job making us weekenders after having mon/tues off for 12 years...

I think I am just used to weekend skiing there now. Yesterday’s lines were due to beavers lift going down. It usually isnt that bad once you are on the hill. Lines get long i will usually just go for a hike out the wall or gullies.

Not saying I wouldn’t do a Japan trip. I think thats in my future in the next few years.

Look at the limited parking as a feature not a bug. It does limit people. Being a weekend ski area skier is what it is. If your brain can't take it, buy a snowmobile.

Holy crap what a gong show at the Basin this AM. No traffic from Denver, but absolute zoo in the parking lots and base area. Barely made my kids lesson and had to park in last chance at 8:45. Lifts constantly stopping, including Pali. This Alterra sale is going to suck.
