Congrats to those clicking off anniversaries. I’m okay with being a very light drinker right now. That came after a lot of time sober. I am stunned sometimes to think of how much I negatively effected so much of my life heavy drinking. Baffles me now. I’ve lost a lot of folks to drugs and alcohol, so thoughts and prayers to those of you fighting to help saved a loved one.

I wasn’t that far off. I was drinking 1/3-1/2 a bottle of cheap Vodka and between 4 and 8 Steel Reserves every night by the end. All pretty much 100% hidden from my wife, and basically everybody else. And it was getting worse by the year.
I had these insane notions that I could have been a great spy or something because I could hide my second life so well, fucking delusional.

Otzi, I wish you and your brother the best.
And mazeltov to Byates! (Listen to the whole song, not just the happy birthday!)

Jerry Garcia died in detox. The risks of detox are significant for a severe case of addiction. but I'd wager that every single person who ever died in detox was dead by rights had they not tried detox. It's always worth the risk because if you're that bad off you're definitely gonna die without it.

From what I remember, Jerry was also holed up in his closet high on heroin 24/7 before his alcohol detox.

The way I remember it is he was basically high and drunk for months before entering rehab and docs couldn’t reverse it.

The music was long gone before then.

    Am I remembering it wrong?

Short answer is the extreme case MAY die if they do try to detox, but they'll definitely die if they don't try to detox.

From what I have read/heard, he barely ever drank alcohol. Maybe at the end?

Got a call last week from an old friend, his older brother got into the heron, went to sleep didn't wake up.

Dude was hardcore crack head for decades. Good dude but could not shake the heavy stuff. Incredible athlete.

    yo

I got a text from JayPowHound last week - the guy that started this thread

he said he logged out of his account and now he can’t log back in

I asked a couple Mags to ask Danno to help him get back in - Danno is a moderator I guess but I don’t think he’s very active - I dunno

    anyway

is there anyone here that can help JayPowHound get signed in again?

    Sobriety, V2.

If he logged out but doesn’t have access to the email he set up his account with anymore it’s time for Plan B.

They got the iceman ID working again for a minute but then it went away again, I gave up at that point.

Emergency contraception will fix this??? I mean it's already fucked, so there's that.

Jer had also been a diabetic coma for a week and had to re-learn to play guitar. Then he got fat as shit and smoked cigs like they were going out of style and ate nothing but ice cream for the last few years. I am sure the heroin didn't help but I'm also not sure that it is entirely clear that he died from withdrawal or whatever.

Hope you and your bro are OK, ice.

We got him admitted to the hospital today so it's under control for a few days but after that I guess we'll see. Going to find someplace he can go after but I guess it's up to him. Appreciate the good thoughts fellas.

Def up to him. Rehab is like 30 grand, absolutely pissing money away if he's not into it.

Can't bullshit a bullshitter, getting him to talk w another drunk(who has years of sobriety) is the key. Hope it all works out.

I lost a friend to detox. He had completed a program about 6 months previous and I think his family was ashamed that he relapsed. No one really looked for another program. A friend who’s a mental health professional told me that on average an addict goes through recovery 5 times before it sticks. Stay with the process.

    I’d rather just die.

Alcoholism is like the one disease you can have where it’s acceptable for everyone to hate you for having it.

    Shame.

Can’t tell people you’re sick. Don’t ever do that. They’ll get angry.

Don’t tell them that you’re two people. Just hide it.

This is Japan. It’s different here.

Obesity is turning out to be more like alcoholism as the experts get deeper in to the causes and genetics surrounding it. Quite a bit of fat shaming on this forum..
