I don't disagree with the underlying discussion, but with that said...

If the "tight" trees are on a climbing trail or slow speed section of trail that you can fit with wide bars, then I feel like it's just part of the trail and you should get better at riding instead of modifying the trail. I can't tell the details in the above picture, but what was done is not a solution.

    Agree.

I honestly cannot stand tight trees because it's just potentially an accident waiting to happen, but growing up EC riding you learn to turn thru them.

My builds don't have any because I avoid routing that way. Old school trails when we were cutting our bars down it didn't matter as much.

Everyone agrees that the right tree should have been taken down. Now it's both.

That seems like it's pretty much the end of the debate.

Problem existed. Solution that was implemented was wrong.

I'm sure this discussion will go for another 5 pages though.

I don't agree that we all agree, and X-up wheelies should be mandatory for all trails.

I want to see you do an X-up wheelie.

I'm also entirely confused by the whole X-up wheelie discussion. I saw zero x-up wheelies in bushwhacka's video.

I can barely manage, driveway wheelies, and my driveway is short! One of my old riding buddies can do one handed wheelies for like 500 yards. How’s he do that?

I barely see any trees in that picture.

I think the X came from me because that's the actual trail name of where the cut took place...X-trail.

And after all this, it was the OG builder who did the cut. He is part of our crew and the cut was lambasted on our chat...then he entered and admitted his mistake. We also have an arborist as part of our crew. It's been comedy gold. He'll never live this one down.

This trail is fun. Punchy techy boulders

What's funny is people not knowing the context of Fort Rock. This is not a flow trail space. This is one of the OG seacoast NH mountain biking spots that's been slowly eaten up by development, but still rife with 90's-early 2000's hard EC tech. I wholly agree that tight trees are a pain, but if you're riding at Fort Rock, you know that you're not going there for easy or straightforward trails. It's a good feeling when you can finally flow on some of the harder stuff because your bike handling skills have gotten solid.

The Fox fork cable guide interface is such shit. Can’t get enough purchase to even get the screw threaded and after 2 attempts the outermost threads of the fork are completely fucked. Made it work with a rock shox bolt I had lying around but such a weak design for such expensive forks

The most annoying part is that there’s enough thread depth there to use a longer bolt, but Fox goes with one that barely engages any threads. What’s the issue with just spec’ing a longer bolt? Need to save the half gram?

Thank god for the added depth though so I could at least get a longer bolt in there vs resorting to a zip tie. But yeah 3 more threads on that bolt would go a long way. I’m also very careful with stuff like this and literally stripped out the first few threads immediately with almost zero force

A longer screw there is an automatic upgrade to every Fox (and most RS) fork I've ever owned.

Busted a group of 9 motos coming down one of my trails last night. Bunch of kids, late teens-ish on 50's and slightly bigger dirt bikes. Met them at the bottom and politely asked they not ride our MTB trails, being built/maintained by hand and conditions so dry right now it is not possible to repair any damage they do.

"We always stay off the MTB trails!" (which they were just on)

"And we were super careful not to damage the lips on any jumps" (which means they were riding my friend's jump line.)

Went back out there today. There actually wasn't much damage to the jump line, but they roosted leaving some nice ruts, a bunch of other spots trying to get over rocks and around tight turns.

What the fuck is an “X up wheelie?” Is that kinda like a “wheelie?”

Also, why not just a 5’ rerout around the tree, maybe a flowy little banked soft chicane, add some interest but not take away speed?

Also, are people that don’t build trails allowed to rant about how they don’t like the trails that are built?

    I visibly, I have questions.

Three times today on my ride. I come up from behind and say “whenever you’re ready”. Rider accelerates and doesn’t yield. 30 seconds pass and I say louder “whenever you’re ready”. They double down and accelerate more. 15 seconds later, full yell “please let me pass”. All three then say something snotty after I pass. It’s weird. I hate having someone on my wheel. And all three were female. Getting Agro on people asking to pass is just bizarre.

I have too many 10mm sockets in my tool box. I’m overflowing in the 10mm sockets department. [emoji6]

I tend to have better results with "mind if I sneak by?" Seems it doesn't raise the hackles as much. I usually sit back there in an obvious manner for a while so they for sure know I'm there. Doesn't sound like this was the issue for you. Some people just take it personally I guess.

I have the exact same problem. Except I've somehow managed to lose all of my deep 10's. So I can tighten like 17 10mm nuts at the same time, as long as none of them have much bolt sticking through.

There are the exact words I use.
