I don't want to be but am basically resigned to renting at this point. Need at least a 2/1.5. Covered parking and walkability would be nice but maybe not deal-breakers given we need to get in the area by Aug. Anywhere from the south coast of MA up to Portland will do. If anyone has a lead on something decent hit me up.

A long time, hopefully. Trying to set up homebase; get the kid(s) into and through school, etc.. Thanks for the link.

Zillow shows exactly one house for sale in this town. That can't be true, something's wrong there, I can think of another one just off the top of my head. It's a nice place, though: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5...56890642_zpid/

What's your general price range and number of people that will be living there? Also - are you sensitive to tax load (IE - do you have high income or is this mostly existing capital, as that changes the calculus for ME/MA vs. NH).

Definitely won't get pulled down, it's in the Historic District, you can barely change the paint color without a fight. Besides it's nice.

They took it off the market and just put it back, I think they need to sell but it'll still be expensive.

That's a lot of money then, for a down to the frame restoration. It doesn't look nice to me. And it's tiny. Plus it needs a 2nd bathroom.

Not sure what house you're talking about, I'm talking about this one that has 3 bathrooms: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5...56890642_zpid/

Where is the best mtbing in the Portland/southern Maine area? Anything with elevation change/downhills and not flat xc trails? I pass through there to visit family pretty frequently

To rent? Up to 3.5k but would like to spend less. 3 people right now. I care more about living in a good spot than tax load.

For sure. Also reminds me of the expensive car quip re: afford to buy vs afford to own.

Bidding wars for rentals. This is fine.

The numbers: One recent analysis found 5% of Boston-area rentals tracked last month went for “over-asking” by as much as $400 or $500, The Boston Globe reported on Sunday. In one zip code along the Green Line Extension in Somerville, the percentage was nearly 14% this spring, according to Boston.com.

Falmouth has a few zones, the most vert would be around Blackstrap. Mostly XC since we’re near the coast. Lots of good riding tho.

Gorham has a lot of good momentum from the local club building trail. Cape Elizabeth has lots of riding and it’s all knitted together with road splices.

Bath is rooty old school but lots of it, Bradbury State Park used to be the go to. It got over ridden and I’m not sure how much maintenance goes on there.

Bunch of stuff in Portland proper too, also knitted together with road splices.

Bond Brook if you go as far as Augusta.

we're so fucked - in march a buddy of mine had a deposit in with a place in southie with 3 other guys for a 4 bed apt., just waiting on landlord to send official lease - realtor called them up and said he's returning their deposit bc another group offered them $800 more per month for the spot.... absolutely wild... me and the gf are tryin' to get out of here soon, Boston's eating itself alive and just isn't affordable anymore; will actually be up in Portland this weekend for a wedding and might do some exploring

^^^^BU bound daughter and 2 roommates just signed a lease starting 9/1.…for a 3BR 1 BA in Brookline for 3600.00/ month. (1200/month per person.)

That really was the cheapest they could find/ they liked the location..

I called on a place in Plymouth the other week. The description said the term was negotiable. The owner said the listing price was only for a 9-month term. He then quoted a 12 month term at a higher monthly rate. A couple days later he reneged on that price and quoted an even higher price. I thought he made an honest mistake at first but it just turned out he was an asshole.

    Go Terriers.

Looks like I may have a place to hang my hat. Now, for storage. Anyone with a line on a big garage or small warehouse?

Let me know if you need any boots on the ground with BU. I've got two sisters working there. One in School of Engineering and the other with Housing and Events. They both lived in Brookline at one point but have since moved. One into the city and one out of the center.

Portland was on our short list years ago but seems to have become more expansive. I think we missed out window. But Santa Cruz is not horrible and actually am pretty sure we could sell our place here and make the move. It is my favorite city in the east.
