Bump…headed to Portland this weekend….it’s home base as we head to UMaine on Saturday afternoon. Heading to/home from Portland is a bit closer than going/staying all the way up at UMaine…plus we want to hit Portland for dinner/beer Friday/Saturday night.

Any recommendations (dinner, beers) from the collective?/..staying downtown, so places that are walkable?

Saw these 2 close to where we are staying?

    -Shipyard
    -Brickyard Hollow

Beer - Novare Res if you like falling down the belgian/craft beer hole in a cellar.
Dinner - lots of good places - what are you into?

We are open to anything……in town only 2 nights, so looking to make the most of it….we don’t get up ME way too often.

If the brewery has good food as well…we can kill 2 birds with one stone. (walkable/great, but can drive too….(if it’s worth the visit)

Novare Res is definitely worth a visit. I don’t recall eating there but food is an afterthought.

Tomaso's for beers and snacks. Eventide for dinner; get a res. Nura is a walk but they make some of the best falafel I've had anywhere. Underwhelmed by Shipyard.

High end dinner - Fore Street (need rez)

Casual dinner - Duckfat or Terralingua.

Lots of bars and pubs downtown that have great beer lists including NR and Tomassos listed above, The Great Lost Bear should be included. The bartenders at The Kings Head have always made me feel like a regular when I stop in.

The whole row with duckfat/eventide is pretty solid. My friends there have been singing the praises of crispy gai and Minato, and I enjoyed chaval when we went. Central provisions is a little sold out at this point IMO, but still solid on many of the menu items.
I imagine front room/corner room are still good.

X3 Novare Res for sure. That place blew my mind like 15 years ago, good to hear it is still going strong.

When we were there we stayed next to Shipyard Sabago was near by too. Gritty Mcduff's is a classic brewpub. I've heard Allagash is great to visit and take the tour.

We took a local's recommendation a went on the ferry for the "Mail Run". Grab a sixer and take a nice little tour out around the local islands. Nice way to spend half a day.

I think I had lobster for every meal for a week straight when we were there. Oysters too. Can't really go wrong on the waterfront area. Watch out for when the cruise ships arrive though.

Tgr movie tonight at the state theater. The shop (island creek oysters) for $1.50 oysters all the time. Ri ras for the views. Bissel brothers if you leave the old port. Dock fore for cheap drinks (kind of A dive)
I used to love the great lost bear but the food gets worse and worse every time I go.
    Salvage bbq is good

Best new brewery in town IMO > Belleflower, down in the Yeastside/ Bayside zone where a bunch of them are. None of them are much for food unless they've got a food truck on site which Rising Tide usually does.

Another vote for Crispy Gai, Tomasso's and Terlingua is at the top of my spots. If you do the Shop and / or Terlingua Oxbow is a good stop to add on the tour.

Best OG spots for a nice dining experience, Fore St and Street & Co. Scales is a good call for a new addition to Portland fancy dining, I'd also add Luke's Lobster for a lunch spot, on the water is always good in my book.

Cool new spot for cocktails Papi on Exchange, haven't heard much great about the food but the drinks are bueno.

I'm not a fan of the rooms, the owner is an asshole so he doesn't get my money

If you want a full on locals breakfast Ruski’s bar opens at 8am, you might be able to get a high life with your bloody. Local 188 used to be killer breakfast too but I haven’t been in a couple years, I suspect it’s still good. And Friendly Toast is in town now too.

TC did a great job with recs. Just chiming in to +1 for Crispy Gai and Terlingua. Also Novare Res is pretty unique.

If you can get in, Leeward is fantastic.

For breweries, Bissell if you can travel. Also, I love Goodfire and Belleflower (but as TC said, they’re on the east end)

I was thinking of mentioning Becky's, that place is pretty classic and has a damn good diner-type breakfast.

We went to Portland a few times when I was a kid, that place was an absolute wreck, it's amazing what has happened over the years. Even when Fore Street opened it felt like they were trippin', that fine dining in Portland just wouldn't work, but look at it now.

It’s amazing what an influx of Massholes will do to a town.
