I've been a handful of times. I would rate it as follows:

    Ambiance: 12/10
    Cocktails: 3/10
    Food: 7/10 (that feels generous)
    Wine: 8.5/10
    Value: 6/10

It's like the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion when you want to feel fancy and don't really care too much about the price tag. I've had objectively much better meals in Salt Lake that cost 1/4 as much, but in a far worse setting.

    Also their cocktails suck.

We went for valentine's day, was a pretty awesome place to be with the amount of snow that was up mill creek in mid feb (still fresh, not gross/springy). I feel like the experience was way more memorable than the meal. If you do go bring a DD, quite the ordeal to get an uber out of there at 10PM.

The meal wasn't "bad" by any means, but agree with tgapp there are places that are cheaper with better food in the city.

The SLC PhoKing has announced Pho 777 is the best Pho in Utah, just ahead of Pho 33. All of his top ten I've tried are amazing though. If you haven't followed him, check out all his posts on what makes good Pho, I learnt a ton! https://www.instagram.com/phokingslc/

I'm hoping he tackles Ramen next so SOMEONE can confirm besides me that Kobe ramen is good but not great, ha. If not I think he will do Ban Mi sandwiches, also a great idea.

Randomly, the breakfast burritos at Skillets Food Truck across from Sweet lake are fucking great. But I'm a sucker for tater tots in breakfast burritos when they are nice and crispy. It's $12 but it's a big burrito.

Does anyone know ANY good restaurants between SLC and Farmington? Bonus points if they are right off i15. All I know is El Cabrito at the edge of SLC, which specializes in goat and has massive portions. I wouldn't get the tacos, and none of it is gourmet but the burritos, chicken mole, and enchiladas are all great for the price.

Garage on beck and santo taco, those are definitely SLC side.
nothing on yelp stands out as "oh i heard about that place", you're kind of in chain restaurant hell up there.

PhoKing is a good follow. I'm currently taking a break from the gram so I appreciate the announcement here. He did inspire me to eat a lot of pho when the bracket was going on and now I'm pho-outed haha. Hoping he tackles Bahn Mis next personally.

did the pearl this winter one night, very underwhelmed on the pho, did 33 a few weeks ago, that was the best i've had so I am excited to try 777.
Tacos El Fino is back open on 2700s 500e and is awesome.

Best Banh Mi I've found so far is at Pleiku downtown. Doesn't look the part but delivers.

Anyone know if Hector's is ever gonna make a comeback? I shudder every time I drive by the new Beto's...

Yeah feels like it's all chains for bland Mormons but there has to be SOMETHING else, right? I was psyched when Javiers opened in Farmington, but its just OK. I once ordered Birria ramen and they used a 10 cent Maruchan ramen package and the bowl almost had zero meat, wtf.

Santo taco is going to close if i15 expands, their lot is marked for demo. Fuck UDOT, put in more train options instead please.

PhoKing did say The Pearl was one of the best but also said many Pho places suffers from inconsistency. I'll try El Fino soon, thanks.

Good to know! The market next door has Afghan food in the back of the convenience store and also is a gem. Haven't eaten there in years though.

More of a coffee/breakfast/light lunch place, but Caffe Torino had decent coffee IIRC, and pretty solid crepes & paninis.

Smokin Bones is decent. Weller's is some of the best German food in the valley. That's about it AFAIK.

Thanks everyone. This looks promising, anyone been? https://www.yelp.com/biz/el-rocoto-c...ian+Restaurant

My Mom's from England, I'll have to take her to Little Taste of Britain. She is real picky so I'm not looking forward to hearing what they did wrong though, ha. They better get the tea right.

Haven’t been in a while but Boba World in Bountiful used to be my go to for Chinese. Seriously good soup dumplings and Shanghai fat noodles

I ate there yesterday, thanks. Not authentic but the caramelized pork is a great Asian fusion version of the Banh Mi. It was very hard to walk past the Afghan Market to try your suggestion but it was worth it. I'll put this in my SLC sandwich rotation. Any other good Banh Mis you eat there?

I like Little Saigon in sugar house. Good bahn mis and they serve bun bo hue, which is like a spicier pho imo. The phoking turned me on to this noodle soup. Plus the "bro" that normally works the counter cracks me up.

I've been there several times back when work was out in WVc. It's decent. I always like a good lomo saltado.
Haven't been in a few years. There is a newer Peruvian place down in Lehi that i tried a couple of times, as work is down there. Place sucks. El rocoto is way better.

Only ever tried the caramelized pork... too risk averse to stray far on my order. Glad the leap of faith worked out.

My runner up Banh Mi is probably Pho 33. It's quite "simple" compared to Pleiku but solid execution and generally on excellent bread (IMO a must of the genre). Everything else feels decidedly b-tier to me.. Oh Mai, Little Saigon, even the Pearl.

Tried El Fino yesterday, generally a fan though I forgot to load up on toppings before walking out with takeout. Seemed about on par with the trucks on State & 800s (tdr/toro tacos)?. Will try a burrito or quesadilla next.

I haven’t had Oh Mai in like a decade, but was my first intro into bahn mi and it’s still my favorite in my mind. Maybe I’ll never go back so I don’t ruin it. Haha

I used to eat at Oh Mai a lot - like twice a week for a couple of years. While I do think that they can make some slappin' good banh mi, they can also be pretty inconsistent. It's not always that amazing. Convenience and price, 10/10. Quality - variable.
