Today was decent at Jay. said 3-6, I would call it 2-4 with maybe one pocket of deeper snow at Hell's woods

Woods were 7/10, bumps 6/10, groomer 3/10 very icey.

The smaller school in a merger usually ends up bitter that they don't have as much say in things because they have fewer students. It also often has sticker shock for the smaller town for a number of reasons. Belvedere and Waterville was a perfect example for all of the above reasons. I still wouldn't live or especially raise kids in NH. And definitely not Manchester. The same goes for Barre and Rutland. I raised my kids in Saint Albans City. I would have rather sent them to town school, especially as things changed over time. BFA was alright. Everyone wants their kids to go to CVUHS these days. It didn't seem that special 35-40 years ago.
Now wait a minute. I'm a product of Barre city schools and....

    Fuck, never mind.

My nephews who are products of Manchester (NH) schools are in way better shape than I was at their age. And the older one had Adam Sandler speak at his graduation because that dick John Kerry backed out at the last second.

A few of us have got it figured out...strawjack, powbmps, buttah, savemeasammy (and me) all live east of the CT River. Don't believe the BS that property taxes in NH are higher than they are in VT. They're not unless you live in one of the Boston bedroom communities. The condo I owned in Essex Jct (VT) was appraised at $325K. We didn't own the building or any land. Annual property taxes north of $8K. Lakefront property in SW NH (50' of lakefront on a pristine lake) appraised at $425K (pre-COVID). Annual property taxes just north of $5K. No income tax, no sales tax, no can deposit.
It depends which town you live in as well. Our last house was a Victorian in town on a small lot, and the taxes were a little over $5k. Rural towns like ours with minimal services are definitely cheaper.

I definitely envy northern Vermont for their skiing though…!

late to the party here but monday was a good, springish day on the local hill. skiied wild turkey for first time since closing day 2020, when the season ended with 2.5mos to go, not as soft as that balmy march day but that's a good thing in mid-february!
also took chair to jiminy's other peak for first time *ever* ie. several decades. hat's off to mt ops. solid coverage everywhere. will be especially needed before it supposedly gets cold again.
had no time for soup. sorry

Nice. Wild Turkey is a great little trail. I should get back up there some time.

Nice day bucket! Monday was a beaut!
Want to say that lower wild turkey used to be Linda’s Leap? I know we lost raccoons den and Linda’s leap at some point perhaps a kindler gentler trail map evolved but they were both right over there - Lower Jericho was the den I believe. Ski it soon!

Everyone knows Jay overreports their snowfall totals, what a sham.... nice video tho, the woods still look to be in really good shape, we'll see how they fare tonight thru Friday.

Hopping on the train with the old pics here, and speaking of Jay... this caption always made me chuckle; gettin' dumped on VDay aint so bad eh? I think this was from 2017 or 2018 I can't remember, absolutely blower, could use a nice dose of this right about now

ha it was but stuck at work today as i hear the corn horn bellowing in the distance (62F). hope this is only the first of many springs - or the last spring til spring!
was looking at old trail maps to see how that side of the hill was laid out.
i almost always skiied there at night so don't think i ever hit those former trails.
    whole different place by day

ETA 1977-78 trail map. quite the different layout!

New webcam on top of Burke:

The youtube link is for a live cam, so it must not really "show" anything when linked here.
