Think of the children!!!
I just out brakes on my outlaws. After 20 something years without brakes, it is pretty noce to drop your skis and not worry about them taking off.

i know a guy who chased a gal's ski 20 yars ago, she was grateful and they got together
not so easy to find a skiing climbing partner back then
but it was stil fucking stupid skiing with no leash or brakes

Cursing myself but I never use leashes. I do make sure my heel throw stays tight but I hate getting in telemark binding to start w and leashes just add another thing to fack w and you need to take your hand out of your gloves. Stopped using them like a decade ago and never looked back. I am still a 75mm dinosaur.

I’ve used leashes routinely forever and was stoked when I got some NTN outlaws with brakes.
Well that lasted about two days. I didn’t like the outlaw X brakes as they change the step-in/out dynamic so I removed them and went back to using leashes.
I took some skinny skis over to deer valley last season, forgot to add some leashes and oddly enough I ran into a ski patrol supervisor who was actually skiing on telemark (!!) and he stopped me, cut some rope and made me tie up some leashes while he watched. Duh.
All that said I’ve got a couple hundred days on outlaw X and one ski came off one time when I clipped a rock or stump in steep terrain and rag dolled.
All that said I’ve found that they don’t come off easily but when they do, it’s nice to have a retention device.

So you grumblemarkers… you wear leashes in your brakeless rigs when working?
I’ve thrown a toe a few times for various reasons, always had leashes on, and the leashes broke every time. sent my ski rocketing downhill each time .
I entertained the first chair crowd on the chairs flying over me once at work one morning by eating shit and blowing out of first one ski then the other. I’d forgotten to swap the leashes onto the skis I was using and both skis went porpoising away down the hill. I had to posthole down a ways in deep snow to retrieve them.

Well I never would have guessed leashes would unleash so many responses. I also thought the telecrew would say Ya dood leashes are unnecessary.
I did leave my poles in the rack for a few hours and that felt really good.
How am I supposed to release outlaw bindings without a pole? I just asked to borrow one.

I thought leashes were mandatory at lift served areas for 75 mm setups. Lifties have always pointed out an unfastened leash to me when boarding. On an aside, I biffed at Targhee several years ago, leash snapped and ski slid for about 300 yards and went off the edge of the run into deep snow and trees. Fortunately was stopped by a tree within a few feet of of the run’s edge or would have been tough to find.
This.
Back in the day, the available leashes were nearly worthless - I broke them every time except once, and I regretted that it didn't after getting smacked by ski several times before coming to a stop. Current leashes are better (B&Ds are my recommendation), but still .... if the brakes work as they should (looking at you 22D), always better than leashes.
Although on really hard/icy snow, your ski's heading down a long ways, brakes or not.
A couple decades ago I had those crappy Voile leashes that were made out of 1/4" or so flat webbing. Was up at Big Mtn and at the top of a groomer tried hitting a hip jump. Landed and blew out of one of my pitbull bindings. That released ski was flailing about and my other ski went over the leash, sliced it and away went the ski headed for a father/son situation about 100yds away. I almost blüchunks...10 or so feet in front of them it caught the tip and twirled over their heads and ended up in the bank like a throwing ax. I have only used steel wires since. Scariest thing for me on skis.
Looks like tele is comong back.

I still rock the 7TM, if i leave the plate on the boot and kick out they are step-in,
I still use the ankle strap
I think people wanted a more active binding and or broke them but they been fine for me

I never had good luck with those. I had the boot lever out of the binding a few times. I could never get them tight enough that they didn’t blow out. I had one scary crash due to that. Probably a Ttips thread out in the ether about it
I had better luck with the Rotefella TRP and Voile Hardwire.
