Mask mandates were toothless. Enforce them and the outcome is very different.

Yeah, mask mandate != people effectively wearing effective masks. Sorta like the people bitching about lockdowns when the us never had one.

yea, properly worn and fitted masks are annoying

I’ve gotten covid survived, so did a ton of people I know. Never met a person that died of it. I do know people that died of drinking too much. Kills more people then covid. I know smokers that died of lung cancer. Smoking kills more people than covid. I know people that died of overeating (heart disease, diabetes etc.) Kills more than covid.
Covid was real bad, now it isn’t. The other shit I just mentioned is still going on. Enough of this nonsense. Real talk

It does seem like we have followed the path of the early 19th century flus. IE - a virus that mutated itself into something less deadly.

In my community, we had an indoor mask mandate implemented for Omicron just before new years and lifted just before the end of January. I have a dataset that might be publishable showing the impact on flu and other non-COVID RVs. If influenza was a bad person and masks were the Marvel character, the data look like what you'd expect if masks had the power to drag influenza into a dark alley and beat it savagely with a lead pipe.

I know several people who would be alive today if they hadn't gotten covid.

Covid has been the third leading cause of death the last 2 years behind heart disease and cancer.

Exactly 480 000 smoking related death last year, about the same as covid in the us. Cigarettes are still legal, could ban cigs and save the same as covid killed. Cigs have been killing steady for a long time. Covid peaked in 2021. Heart disease killed 660k could ban fast food. Covid has gotten less deadly, the other stuff hasn’t. Nobody gives a shit about that. Nonsense. Keep putting on your double n95s, let people know you care. Shits over, too bad it defined you

I see covid as inevitable, we’re all getting it, masks or not.

No reason to get emotional and entrenched either. Too much out of context emotion on this forum, and social media.

Still have not seen a covid positive for over a month. Plenty of other seasonal respiratory pathogens right now.

Omicron was underwhelming in Montana. Low vax rate. Time to stop worrying until there’s something to worry about.
You sent your ICU cases out of state during delta, so of course you had nothing to worry about.

Sort of interesting opinion piece in the Seattle Times about Idahos reliance on WA to bail them out and how some of their more recent legislative ideas may put additional pressure on WA healthcare system and the writer pondering how long that sort of shifting of responsibility and cost was tenable.

Well we have a shitload of $$$ in WA and a metric fuckton of hospital capacity out west, so the righteous indignants took advantage of their proximity…

Also every dipshit sounding off about how “masks don’t work” ends their rant by saying they already had covid and it wasn’t that bad…

    I had covid

    I wear a mask

    I had three shots

worked in the ER for 9 months

then in hospital doing cardiac tests

    always wearing N95

I got omicron (I think - not certain) and it kicked my ass

The problem with assessing the effectiveness of mask mandates is that because of politicization mandates tend to be imposed in places where people are more likely to wear them voluntarily and are more likely to limit exposure in other ways. It is likely that those places would have lower rates of covid regardless of whether there was a mandate.

I live in one of these places and when the mandate came down the masks came off. All those people probably wouldn't have worn masks if not for the mandate but they complied.

Mask mandate days are ending thanks to enough people stepping up and getting vaccinated.. That makes the severity way less so people don't slam hospitals and morgues. You're welcome..

The bottom graph shows daily deaths from COVID-19, worldwide.

Unlikely that we will not get another wave.
