So it's been what, a day since the US opened it's border? Last night and today I've already seen about 2 dozen BC and Alberta plates in what seems to be a mad dash south to AZ and Vegas. Is it getting cold up north or something?

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Puneet Dikshit, a partner at a global management consulting firm, with illegally trading in advance of a corporate acquisition by one of the firm’s clients in September.
The SEC’s complaint, filed in federal district court in Manhattan, alleges that in the course of providing consulting services, Dikshit learned highly confidential information concerning The Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s impending acquisition of the consumer loan fintech platform GreenSky Inc. According to the SEC’s complaint, in the days leading up to the acquisition announcement on Sept. 15, 2021, Dikshit used this information to purchase out-of-the-money GreenSky call options that were set to expire just days after the announcement. The SEC’s complaint further alleges that Dikshit violated his firm’s policies by failing to pre-clear these options purchases, which he sold on the morning of the acquisition announcement for illicit profits totaling over $450,000.

I was sure that was from the Onion. But it's real. And amusing. In my grandfather's day you changed your name at Ellis Island, or the immigration people did it for you. Nobody has any standards anymore.

One of the contacts for one of the servers I supported many years ago was named Ashit. And we came to find out it was pronounced just like it looked: ay-shit, as in first syllable rhymes with hay. Well, maybe more like aysh-it. We were all hoping it was awsh-eet.

At the ski shop the other day I was surprised to see 6 or so different 75mm tele bindings on display. While I was there a guy, probably in his mid 70's came in looking for a pair of 75mm bindings. I imagined he was more of a leather boot/t4 waxless touring type than a resort ripper...but who knows.
What amused me was the shop employee who's helping him started into the whole "75 mm is going away, you're gonna want to get NTN" talk before asking any questions about what kind of skiing the guy does.

Last season I got a Royal Gorge add on to my Sugar Bowl pass and did a few days there on my old waxless steel edge nordic touring skis with 75mm bindings in my leather boots. Really awkward in classic tracks. The ski patrol/pass checker laughed at how long the skis are. I used to resort tele on those things. I might buy some decent XC skis this year if I get around to it, but damn XC felt awkward after not having done it in 25 years. Or maybe I should just go whole hog on the old fart thing and get some longboards.

There’s an xc ski swap this weekend at Tahoe XC in Tahoe city. They’re using a reservation system this year to limit indoor crowding, so it may be sold out/fully booked.

Oh, I fully expect the amusing->annoying transition to occur. But, for now I'll take all the laughs I can get.

Larry, Darryl, and Darryl are alive and well. I saw them in Hannaford tonight. They're younger than I remember. One of them was sporting dreads. They were filthy as can be like they just got off the woodlot. And stoned out of their minds. One of the bought some kombucha.
