Wife is in a school zoom meeting right now as a consultant. One of the participants (school staff) name showed up as "Baddie with a boooootay". Meeting had to be suspended for 5 min while the host figured out how to change the name. Priceless.

We had a minor kitchen remodel 2 years ago--cabinets and flooring, countertop and sink, but not cheap. Minor problem I called the contractor about, he sends his electrician/plumber to have a look, arrives in his family vehicle--a giant Mercedes SUV, new looking. I chuckled--bad look for the builders to show up at the client's looking that prosperous.

    Why is that?

Because I am Blue Collar I am not allowed to show that I am successful? You expect me to have an old Hyundai or rusty Ford? Typical of white collar workers to judge those who they deem as inferior.
The amount of learning I have done over decades in the business is huge. Always new products and innovations to learn and sell [for their benefit] to clients so their vacation home is primed for the 25-42 days that they use it.
Next doctor I work for gets a 20% surcharge.

I had the same reaction to his statement. Why shouldn't electricians and plumbers be prosperous? Are they less worthy, so it's a bad look for them to appear as prosperous or more than you?

"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy

Guess I should have given a trigger warning.
Nothing wrong with a tradesman being prosperous. Just lousy salesmanship to look too prosperous. You want your customer to think they're getting a good deal.
Anyway, this is things that amuse me, not annoy me. I wasn't the least bit bothered, and I happen to know that the guy has a shitload of kids and needs a monster SUV.

I used to work with a pacemaker rep--his company told him to stop driving a Mercedes to the hospital. They didn't want people thinking the company was making too much money overpricing pacemakers. Maybe if they had worried more about the quality of their product they wouldn't have been sued out of business.

I got where you were coming from and agreed it is comical inability to read the room or potential job site in this case

Yes and no. A GLS costs about the same as a Duramax. And honestly, as someone who's been in the game for a while, I'd say that the correlation is more like the nicer the whip the contractor drives, the better off they are at their job.

Why does one assume that a profitable business man got that way from being anything other than just straight awesome at their job? You gonna ride the realtor or the attorney the the same way?

Recent failure of an exchange with somebody on a layover at the airport:

Them: “I think I’m going to wonder.”

Me: “Are you going to wander, too?”

Them: “Somewhere else in the airport.”
    focus.
