Ima just gonna put this here:
If you look at the map, the five states with the highest percentage of new cases in the US are Florida, Texas, California, Louisiana and Georgia. Almost one in every five new cases of coronavirus -- 19.2% -- are from Florida alone, yet the state only has 6.5% of the US population. All of those states, except California, have fewer than 50% of their populations fully vaccinated

"The Offspring are slated to play a sold-out show in Los Angeles this Sunday."
The fact that the Offspring are still capable of selling out shows kinda feels like folks are burying the lead with the drummer thing.
So the selfish twat wants to impose his bullshit on the people around him then. The fact that he already had it tells me the dude wasn't taking necessary precautions, especially for a high risk individual.
Don't feel bad for him now. Dude sounds like dooooosh
Makes me wonder how many people the kunt gave it to when he had it
some people had mild or no symptoms while some people ( 4.2 mil actualy ) died
its like a box of chocolates

The map is here, and the usually reliable Dr. Gupta misstated. The states with the highest raw numbers are as he stated (which of course includes California because California is by far the most populous state). The five states with the highest percentage of new cases are, in order, Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama. All of those states have under 50% vaccination rates (though Florida is very close to 50%, with a vaccination rate not all that far below California; CA's better performance is probably due to better behavior, masking etc, by people in its population centers, versus Florida, where, you know). California's per-capita new infections rate puts it in 22nd place, not third place.
My FIL's friend, Milt, died yesterday. He was 86.
Milt had been vaxed but, unknown to him, had been hanging out with unvaxed family members.
He subsequently spent time with my FIL. My FIL & MIL are both vaxed & 80+yo.
Milt got some symptoms that concerned him. He tried to get tested on Monday a week ago & got turned away from 3 urgent cares who said he didn't meet the criteria to get tested (wtf for 86yo???). Last Wednesday he went to the ER with more severe symptoms and got admitted. He passed away yesterday.
We are very worried for my FIL who has had respiratory issues through the last year unrelated to covid, but he seems to be symptom free for the moment. Mrs ::: ::: is a little weirded out to say the least and is pretty pissed at the selfish fucksticks who can't be bothered to do very basic things to protect themselves and loved ones and community.
sad & pissed & worried
The trouble for you is population density doesn't seem to matter:

Yes, let's just cherry pick the last seven days while conditions are seasonally favorable for the virus in FL as if that proves some kind of point. Florida is still middle of the pack all time and current daily deaths aren't anywhere close to their previous high points.

The same phenomenon shows up within regions or neighborhoods too. For example, 67% of Manhattan vaxxed versus 51% of Staten Island:

Sorry, maybe I misread, but it's a crap article full of strawmans and false arguments.
Oh ok, maybe that is us.
Contrary to that article, most of us here understand that as the vaccinated percentage rises, so will the proportion of cases among the vaccinated.
Also contrary, the problem with allowing high prevalence in a partially vaccinated population is that we'll still have 6 digit deaths among the vaccinated and most of us think that's too high.
Vaccination works, because not only does it protect the individual, but, by driving prevalence near zero, it also protects against breakthroughs.
As for letting the dumdums die, that still imposes a social cost on the rest of us as we lose or disable productive members of society.
They’ve been in the top five for deaths per 100k 7 day average for a couple weeks now. It’s not static. You know that. They hit their high in hospitalization this week , for the entire pandemic. People aren’t dying as much because we’re much better at treating them. That doesn’t mean they’re not gravely ill. You should ask for a tour of a hospital ED and Covid ICU.
Middle of the pack! REEE! That’s your language I know you can understand

Best example of this is the right wing and the 2nd Amendment.
Here on TGR we have a long time poster going on about how the “inner cities are awash in illicit guns” while he says next payday he is buying another Glock to go with the 17 other Glocks in his collection.

Oh, they'll be dying. Give them a chance, they just entered the hospital. Let them struggle to breathe, max out the O2 machine, get drugged and intubated, and a couple crash cart visits. Then they will die. The morgues will be full in a few weeks. :cries more:
One could only hope…
Jk
We’re actually better at treating these folks, at my hospital anyways. It doesn’t decrease the burden though, it increases it.

I love drummers and Ginger - seriously, the ability to use all your appendages with rhythmic independence is amazing - but the ribbing must go on.
q: What did the drummer say to the band leader?
a: Do you want me to play too fast or too slow?
To add: everyone of these jokes were told to me by drummers
Happy to hear that. Keep up the good work.
I haven't seen much change eyeballing CFR off the cases and deaths charts between last summer and this spring. Hard for me to tell what's happening now as the curves are changing too fast to estimate accurately. Independent of improving treatment, I expect the whole population CFR to improve, as the old farts almost all got vaccinated. Would be nice to see some graphs breaking CFR down by age, and accounting for the several weeks lag between infection and outcome, and the change over time.
