Glad you're ok. I assume full coverage, but some folks opt out once fully paid. Sad day. Nice ride.

I haven't bought new in 22 years and accumulated no less than 5 awd manual wagons.
I think it's time to clean out the old debris and buy new.
    a6 or 5 series?

Yeah, well, that's been our mantra for years now, but I've ended up in a situation where plans with my quickly dissipating family are wrecked.
    I'm tired of the patching.

So the engine caught on fire? Do you think a small fire extinguisher would of helped put it out initially or just to much went up at once? Sorry about the car Buster, it was a nice one.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

    Unclear.
It looks like the wheel, passenger side, so could have been brakes or cv joint. Not going to take the wheel off until we see a day below 90F.
Our V70R is still rolling fine though.

No Benzes? It’s still the best for what a wagon is supposed to be.

Having run 4 audis up over 150k (215k on the oldest), we're partial to the brand I guess. JD Powers ranks both Mercedes and Audi pretty low, but we know we like the Audi awd and feel.

Oooof! That is a beautiful car but to much money for me to want to pay out.

CPOs are going for low 60s here with a few grand on em.

Wonder what Bobby would say the sweet spot for an offer would be on one.

    Toast as they say.

Bought it with 65k on the clock for $25k. Currently reads 166k.

The last new car we bought was in 1999 and the last month has been a series of problems, partly due to our old favorite repair shop closing.

It took 2+ weeks to fix a check engine light in the V70R and now my old s4 burned and the newer s4 is chugging oil, so needs more love.

Point being, it's time to get a new car with a solid warranty. We've kind of lost an opportunity for a last vacation with the kids before they fly the coop.

I know CPOs have some warranty, but I haven't seen one that is the same as a new car warranty. Correct me if I'm wrong.

In any case. it's time to let go of the manual requirement, but I'm not driving a fucking SUV (or drinking merlot). We just want a bigger station wagon.

Panameras are too pricey, Macans too SUVy, Mercedes also pricey, so that kind of leaves the A6 Allroad.

What about V90 Polestar/XC to big brother the V70-R? Too much pizza cutter?

    Thanks.
I'm leery of the 4 cylinder turbo pinched up to 300+ hp. I'd really like to have a normally aspirated 6, but they too have gone the way of the manual transmission.

Plus, our 06 V70R with the turning radius of a battleship is not particularly cherished by my wife. It's a great road car, but parking lots are a chore.

Maybe we should drive a V90, but that will require withdrawals from the cajoling account.

Don't think you're just gonna sneak that past me without a tip of the cap. Well placed reference.

"With as much dignity as he could muster, the Old Man gathered up the sad remains of his shattered Major Award. Later that night, alone in the backyard, he buried it next to the garage. Now I could never be sure, but I thought that I heard the sound of "Taps" being played. Gently."

Looks like a V90 R-design - with 19” wheels and stock audio, and an extended 120k warranty - could be had for under $70k. That should be at or below the walk away cost for the Allroad or E450.

The MB has a pretty great package though the cladding/look is a bit off compared to the Volvo

I've found a new A6 allroad with premier package for $69k. And again, I admit we're partial to Audis due to good experiences with them. MBs are a hard sell with the mate.

Look into Volvo's super extended CPO program. Best I've seen in the industry. It's my understanding that you have to ask for it and pony up a few extra grand, but it's something absurd like 10 years and unlimited miles (technically 999,999 miles).

So many 4 bangers sound that way now. In your shoes Buster I would budget for up to $40k and buy a used V90 Cross Country with the extended warranty. The T5 engine with 250hp will be very reliable IMO, it is the T6 at 300 hp that concerns me a bit. I have always wanted a Ocean Race model: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing
